Point is he didn't follow the rules which he(his parents) signed at the beginning of the year. And every year before. I am sure the district has plenty of proof that he ignored those rule. Talk about privileged mentality! Not caring what rules they break.

If it's such an important rule, why wasn't it enforced? His hair didn't grow overnight.

Why can't they all agree that he can just put his hair up like he's done for school all year ...off the shoulders...during the graduation ceremony? Wouldn't that be a compromise, or are they insisting he cut?
Or is the family insisting on wearing it down?

@MrsT : The dress code rule at AHS is wonky as well, but not the rules in and of themselves. It's the implementation of them that gets on my nerves. I've seen some faculty play favorites, seen some not even care what students do/wear, and saw a couple send people to the office for dress code violation when what the person was wearing was perfectly fine and not even violating those rules.

@carol888 : Per district policy, all main policies such as dress code and peer treatment have to be the at least similar in manner with each corresponding school to that district, along with a school going to their corresponding district with anything they want changed.

Meaning that this kid had had his hair the exact same way since being 10 years old in this exact school district, and it's just now become an issue for staff at his high school. Clearly this rule was added halfway through the year in a very unprofessional manner as there was no warning, no preparation during breaks when students would not be in school, no meeting over it.

Thats what the parents say the district can not comment. That school is huge and easy for him to stay away from admins.

I'm all for following the rules . BUT each generation has their days as high school students . Each generation is looking to do their thing what ever makes them cool . They want their day in the history book also . As long as they don't show their boobs or their butt I can survive the 4 or 5 yrs of them being cool or creative with hair & clothes & their thinking .
My generation the girls lined their eyes like Barbra Streisand , teased our hair 4 to 5 inches above our skull .We had Afro's ,Beehives ,Bob cut , Pixie cut , Flipped bob, the Vidal Sasson cut . Some wore hiphuggers , bell bottoms Go Go boots , miniskirts STREAKED & protested Vietnam ! Let these kids have their time . Having those dreads isn't hurting anyone . I hate them but so what it's not about me it's their day . Parents perhaps should fight the rules on silly stuff like this kids dreads .

I can't remember where I read this but it was basically that boys were circumventing the rule by putting their hair up. They couldn't do anything because technically it did not explicitly say you can't do that. So that's why the rule was changed to cover that loophole.

When I went to AMS many moons ago I was taken to the office by the principal for my shorts being 1/4 inch too short. They were long shorts! I never wore shorts to school again, not even in high school.
My friend told me she got the paddle from the same principal for chewing gum. Can you imagine how that would go over today??😂

I guess I see both sides, having been "that" teacher who enforces the dress code while other teachers would turn a blind eye.
My pet peeve was elementary girls wearing shorts too short!

Last week the BHISD superintendent was on the national news and I had to pause the TV to stare at what was sitting on his desk. Take a look over his left shoulder, right smack in the center of his desk...😂.........WTH is that???
