It is Barbers Hill, plus the rules are the rules! Maybe it is time for parents to ask for the rules to be changed, obviously there is a lot more to the real story.

Why would they change the rules in the middle of the year? Plus it's part of his culture/heritage. It's not offensive, so why change the rules now? I bet they have other kids they should be focusing on.

More than likely the dress code states something about faddish hairstyles. That leaves a lot to interpretation, what is faddish to a 50 year old White person from suburbia, is very different than what is faddish to a 25 year old Hispanic person from the city.

When I see somebody in Wrangler jeans, a western shirt, cowboy boots, cowboy hat, and a crew cut it is faddish to me. I am use to seeing people dressed business casual with medium length hair.

Why is that even in the dress code? What century are we living in? Dreads do not pose any kind of distraction.
There has to be more to the story cause those dreads didn't just appear overnight. All in all this is something so petty to A: actually make a rule and B: prevent someone from graduating.

Dress code is dress code whether school or work environment. What happened to teaching
kids that rules have to be followed?

@JustPeachy : I agree rules are rules, the rules state hair will not extend past earlobes. They needed to correct the first child in this picture before they let him represent the school.

Kids are allowed to stare at their phones at school all day but long hair is a distraction? Ok sure.

Remember that anytime you see a news story regarding a school incident, you are only getting one side of the story. Schools are not allowed to make any comments at all about students, so it is really hard to pass a judgment, not knowing both sides.

I, myself, just hate seeing anything on the news like this because parents can basically say whatever they want to (without proof) while the district must remain silent.
Don't know the details on this case.....but....
As a teacher, I dealt many times with parents who were given the clearly stated rules, but didn't want their child to follow for what they considered very good reasons.
But when we make exceptions, it opens a whole can of worms.

This is ridiculous. Good grief. BH needs to put their energy and time elsewhere.

He was probably told a bunch of times and his parents probably got letters and calls that were all ignored. Rules are rules. Why do people think they don't have to follow them.... It was in the handbook that they signed at the beginning of the year....Their problem not the schools. Accept responsibility. If you have a problem get on the school board and change it or go to the school and fight. I did on several things for the betterment of my kids schools.
