@carol888 : I believe the rules should apply to all but if he has worn his hair like that for a very long time and no one did a thing, then the school screwed up. That may not be the story but if they let him continue it then it's like an nonverbal agreement.

In 1969 we fought against the dress code and had a sit in that was on CBS National news. We won the right for girls to wear slacks and boys to be able to have longer hair and neat facial hair. This was almost 50 year ago and this garbage is still going on. Yet white kids wear all colors and piercings and tats and nothing is said. I think these admins are just over the top jerks and need to look at the last cases that this happened in. The Districts looked bad and the kids won. If they are good kids and are clean and not trouble, let them be! The media also needs to remind them of how these cases turn out. This really says it all. www.npr.org/2018/12/ 27/680470933/after-h -s-wrestler-told-to- cut-his-dreadlo

It is easy for a kid to stay away from admin and most teachers are just glad a kid is in class and are not the nazi's saw it at several school in Humble ISD. Rules are rules you signed a contract and you must follow it. Quit making it racial. Fight the right way not more than half way through the school year!

@JustPeachy : Exactly! It doesn't matter where you are! School or work place! there are rules to follow, we ALL HAVE RULES TO FOLLOW IN SOME FORM. He never should've been allowed the hair style to begin with if it was against the rules, white, black or whatever color they may be! We spend a lifetime following some type of rules somewhere so deal with it.

From what I understand they changed the rule mid year. Seems odd.

I wonder if some on the school board wish they had never opened this can of worms.

The hair isn't a distraction to the students, but the boards obsession with dreadlocks is a distraction to them taking care of real issues and business.

They should leave the kid alone and get back to work.

I don't see a thing about dress codes!
If the student wants to attend school in the nude, let's, it wouldn't be a distraction,
WOULD IT?

@nikkiole : So I am a business owner and I want to change my policy do I have to wait until the year is up? Don't think so! If you want to work, shop or go to school then follow the rules

Changing the rules in the middle of the school year is an a hole move IMO

@nikkiole : I agree & feel how ever you start the year should be how you end the year . You can change the rules for (( NEXT YEAR ))
