I know that it's toting the line with a big brother scenario but if homeowners had access to the cameras and it was kept private would it really be such a bad idea?

There are somewhere around 21 different entrances into the various areas covered by ACIA. Seems unreasonable to consider.

@Johnc874 The point isn't a really large area . Couldn't you get the cost of 1 camera to go on the trees at the entrance to The Point . Then ask the people at the 1st house on the right coming into the area if the recording equipment could be kept at their home . Then get everyone to split the cost . Make an agreement if the people move the equipment will move to another home on The Point . I would think that would be really cheap for that area . And you for sure would see all license plates & make & color . Just a thought .

@Johnc874 You could also get stickers for your car bumpers . put TP for The Point . Purchase for husband , wife ,all the kids , best friends that visit grandparents & who ever else . That way if you have to sit & go through a bunch of film this would speed up that process a bunch .

@bbk this is the scenario I was thinking. just get approval to do it and all neighbors share cost as well as get access to the feed.

Seems like a pretty painless option for some parts of the neighborhood,

@bbk all of Atascocita used to have stickers, but they were phased out due to safety issues (people knowing where you lived bases on the stickers).

@Johnc874 If our HOA decided to do this which I see no way for them to do it because I think there are at least 21 entrances & this would end up costing the homeowners a small fortune . If it is a business or an HOA all of a sudden the price you would charge 1 homeowner just got multiplied by 20 as to what price it would be for an HOA ! Besides HOA Boards are not put into place to handle this kind of stuff . Crime watch was always a neighborhood watch group .

@BusyMommy Yes I use to have a sticker ,but nobody has to have an atascocita sticker . Each area or each street for example could have stickers made with a picture of a dog . If any workers that come to your home or anyone that ask why the picture of the dog ?? Just tell them my entire street gives money for dog rescue for Pug's . Each street could have a different dog or animal . That way when you are in Humble shopping you don't have a ( A ) on your car for Atascocita .

@Johnc874 If I had a camera positioned to catch a cars front & rear plates would that be against the law ??? I really have no idea ? But nobody would be looking to see who is coming in or out unless someone got robbed .

if there was a camera at the entrance to the point. My particular situation could have been resolved and the crooks could have been caught.

@Johnc874 :

I agree. There are some places that just beg for a camera. The point is one. Unless they want to acess via the water you will get them.

When you think of how many more homes and garages will be hit by the same group before they are caught, the time the constable will be using their time to check pawn shops and all the other time and energy they expend to just try to capture these crooks, makes a camera expense seem not all that much.

We will never be able to afford the number of constables that some what to see out here. The more we take advantage of technology the better.

To protect The Point, one camera. To protect Shores 1 and all the Pines, five cameras. To Protect Pinehurst Section 8, two cameras. To protect the rest of Pinehurst and Shores 2, nine cameras. Would be less money than hiring one more constable at (1/2 share with Walden) a cost of around $30,000. I don't know much about security cameras and hard drives so could we have 16 cameras? I would think $30,000 would give us a really good system and that would be that much money every year to mainatain them.

The Security Advisory Committee could look at the footage when there is a burglary or vehicle stolen and send out an e-mail blast to warn us when, like in August, we have a rash of crime.

I like the idea of security cameras also! We have looked in to it for our subdivision and decided against it. There is a lot more to consider than just throwing cameras up and hoping that it will solve the problem. Many things to consider... not only cost of high definition cameras so you can see what is being videoed, but electricity to power them, where do you put the recording devices, will you have to tunnel under the street for the power and cables... just a few of the considerations... then vandalism (kids will paint over the lenses), night time recording... (too dark to capture anything). It is a great idea, but not for every subdivision... $$$$$$$$ Lastly, continued maintenance is also costly! Maybe it is time for another community meeting??

One more thing... most of these crooks have paper plates! Once you get the photo of the car leaving your subdivision they have already gone on to another plate or another stolen car. I saw a older model beat up Suburban leaving my subdivision the other day during the middle of the day... I thought to myself... "that could be crooks casing my neighborhood, if not just robbed one of my neighbors". I called Pct 4 dispatch but these guys moved down Atascocita Road towards Houston so fast, there was nothing they could do (but they tried)!

@Atasca Veteran You said it YOURSELF THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO !!!!!! The extra officers WILL NOT STOP THESE PEOPLE ! I have seen pictures on a night time camera that the husband his self installed & it wasn't an expensive set up & we could recognize their cat at least 4 doors down & crossing the street . So convince someone else that camera's aren't the answer , because you'll never convince me of that .

@Atasca Veteran

You mentioned the heavy growth in our area; however, the Walden and ACIA areas and others currently under their 70/30 Pct 4 contract are not the areas where this big growth has occurred.
This growth has occurred in areas such as Eagle Springs, Laurel Place, Timbers, Timbers Forest, Meadows, Tour 18, the new KB area, and several apartment complexes. Along with this businesses have flourished.
As a resident of ACIA I am satisfied with our contract, except I don't understand why we pay county taxes for the sheriff and then forced to pay for constables. But so be it, can't fight that battle with the political system.
These new subdivisions and our home price increases have generated huge dollars in taxes. If you say we need to pay more for security, then where are our commissioners squandering this money?
You said you have not been involved in the Pct 4 contracts for several years. I believe some of these have increased their deputy count. I have previously asked if any officers were dedicated to the Atascocita area similar to those under our contract that should stay in the area. I was told NONE. Instead of using tax dollars , they are waiting for us to pay more?
If you think there is a need to more patrol units, bikes, 4 wheelers, etc. then you should be talking to the new subdivisions, Walmart, Home Dept, apartments, etc. that are not paying now, don't ask us to pay for their security.

Last I looked , ACIA had around $50,000 in uncollected HOA assessements for 2015 and thousands on the books for prior years. And you want these people to pay more for a unit to patrol Walmart, etc. I don't think that dog will hunt!
