White privilege to me means the ability to deny or ignore social injustices against those that are minorities.
@nikkiole : Like a white teen gets caught with 1/4 lb of weed & gets his hand slapped & probation and a minority gets caught with 1 joint & ends up in jail .
Social injustice....there are all kinds of social injustices. Age, sex, gender, disabilities, poor and the list goes on and on and white is not the only color that discriminates against it. I would hate to have grown up in a household that tells me that a different race is the enemy they are the cause of what keeps me from success. I grew up poor with a single mother we lived on our own in spurts and when the bills got to much we moved in with my grandparents. It never held my mother back from trying to make it on her own. I don't know how many times we moved in and out of my grandparents house but I can tell you she tried over and over and never gave up and in the end she did it. Placing blame on a race for accepting injustices is no ones fault but the one who is accepting it. If I don't get hired for a job my first thought would not be it's because of the color of my skin it's not because I am white it is because I was not raised to think that way. When my mother could only get jobs in sales it wasn't because she was white or because we were poor it was because that was where her skill set was. I am thankful for every minute of my life and for the mother that was chosen to be mine but if she had not had me at 18 she probably would of had a better skill set to attain a better job.
Its too late to rename white privilege, cats out of the bag now and everyone will know whats going on when they come up with a new phrase. Man up and own your mistakes and shortcomings.
