ok good to hear....

do you mean the Simpson-Mazzoli Act

@macdaddy:

As I suspect you're one of those people that plays by rule of never criticizing another Republican. Even when you know they are wrong about something you just can't bring yourself to do it. As far as I'm concerned your criticisms of Democrats has lost all credibility. So I won't be responding to any of your political post in the future.

You ready for football season?

Nothing will stop them from coming as long as a better opportunity is awaiting them on our side of the border.
Don't see many Canadians crossing the border.

Yeah absolutely..... The border agents said they are completely overwhelmed....

And they say this is just the tip of the iceberg....

Sorry to say but Obama is completely at fault for this....
His 12 step to amnesty had opened the flood gates
For these families sending their children here...

Unbelievable

>> As long as there is better opportunity in the U. S. they will continue to come. If you were in their shoes?

@tb505:

So, let's just open the flood gates and let everybody in? Is that your solution?

I deal with these people everyday. Taking away the incentive is the only way to achieve the laws are met. I would start with truly looking into the 14th amendment on who becomes citizens.

>> These kids don't vote .... But yes you're correct about the White House strategy....

But it is destroying the infrastructure of our country...

But Obama isn't doing anything but throwing $$$ at it... He won't enforce the law

@macdaddy:

MD as I have mentioned before I strongly disagree with President Obama on this issue. However, this problem began in earnest with the administration of Ronald Reagan. Every since Reagan signed the amnesty bill, millions of others have crossed illegally hoping that the same will be done for them someday. I know people that were with INS (now a part of ICE) during that time period and they say it was a disaster. They were left with trying to sort out who came here when and of course the task proved almost impossible.

Before the 9/11 attacks, if memory serves me correctly, President Bush was pushing for immigration reform. After 9/11 the whole thing was dropped as Americans were no longer remotely interested. Particularly when it was determined that the hijackers were non-citizens and we had a looming war.

Now here we are again going around the same mountain. It would seem that very few politicians, including presidents, have the stomach for really enforcing immigration laws. In many instances, members of Congress which passed these laws in the first place frequently use their influence to help certain illegal aliens stay in the country. So essentially we have a system where the right hand is in disagreement with the left. Until we solve that problem we will not be able to effectively enforce the laws that are on the books.

@rocket:

It is rare we agree but you hit the point. I do blame Reagan for this fiasco as I am dealing with the aftermath today.

I know these kids don't vote, but their relatives do, and their friends do, and those who are in the Hispanic population who support these actions do. If a politician was running for office and saved a kitten from a burning building, sure the kitten can't vote, but the people who are members of the ASPCA sure can and chances are, he can count on some of their votes. Same principle.

@nikkiole:

But NIk

Not all Hispanics support Amnesty. Also many of them are starting to realize why there cost of living keeps going up and lack of jobs. Here is a link of an election in CA where the majority of hispanics have cast their votes for the Republican ticket.

I say spend $300,000,000 to put a a cattle style electric fence with "muy peligroso" placards on the southern face of the fence. In regards to the 14th amendment (procedural and substantive due process, equal protection, and which incorporated 7 of the 10 Bill of Rights through the Incorporation Doctrine (keep in mind that the Bill of Rights only applied to the Federal Government prior to 1925 and began to be incorporated with the Gitlow v. New York case), we still have three levels of scrutiny that SCOTUS applies. Race, alienage, and national origin (and fundamental rights) are given strict scrutiny which there must be a compelling governmental interest that is narrowly tailored (much tougher for the government to prevail), intermediate scrutiny (gender and illegitimates), and last but not least, the rational basis standard which any statute will be upheld so long as it furthers not a compelling governmental interest, or a substantial government interest, but must only be rationally related to a legitimate government interest (these boogers always are upheld).
