For those that do not have guns or an alarm system . There are things you can do . Go to dollar general or grocery store & purchase HOT SHOT WASP & HORNET SPRAY for every room in your house & garage . It can hit a target 27 ft away . So if you determine you told a person to leave & you believe your in danger you spray this stuff in their face . A Dr friend said it kills through your central nervous system. She said if you hit them in the face with that stuff they'll beg you to bring them to the hospital . Good thing is it sprays them far enough away that they aren't touching you hopefully before you spray them . Also from your bed test the panic button on your car key chain . My bdr is on the opposite side of my driveway / garage & ours work . Every night you & your spouse put your car keys by the side of your bed . If you think someone is trying to break in push the panic button . They are not going to stay with your car horn or horn's honking . And if you don't shut them off quick people around you are going to call the police . I warned my neighbors long ago to call the cops & they should do the same & keep car keys , cell phone & spray at both sides of their bed . An officer many years ago told me about the Wasp & Hornet Spray . I'm sure most of you are tired of reading about this as I've written about it more than once . Also replace the screws in the hinges of your doors with 4 inch long instead of the tiny things that come in your door hinges .All my interior doors are solid wood we have a key lock on our bdr room door . Once they get through that they have to get into my bathroom door which also has a key lock . Once they are inside my bathroom my closet door has a key lock & the moment I think they are standing in front of my door I'm going to BLOW THEM AWAY IF THE COPS I PHONED AREN"T HERE TO DO SO THAT I PHONED !!!! We all have insurance & the priceless things like kids baby pictures & family pictures these folks aren't interested in taking . Protect your self & don't worry about the things you can go & purchase more of . Sorry this is so long .

@bbk I agree too. Think I've mentioned this before as well, but that wasp & hornet spray can also be used on poisonous snakes. They will run away and most likely die after awhile. Just make sure they can run away outside! (If you manage to get a lot on them there is a better chance of them dying.)

@Catmae I need bigger pockets to carry the Wasp spray! I've not heard about this but I will be buying some today. Can I tell the snake to stay right there while I go get the spray? LOL I sure wish I had some when I was steps away from the rattlesnake at the beach house! We chose to ignore each other which worked out fine but I am still looking for it. With this, I could be looking for its brother! Did I mention, I HATE SNAKES?

I always carry my wasp spray outside. I consider myself an armed and dangerous. LOL

@Catmae I think I read this the last time you put it up & thought GOOD GRIEF WHY DIDN"T I FIGURE THAT OUT ??? That is excellent !!!! because you don't get close to the snake & I am sure it will work .

@ladybeachbum Lol, if I had a lot of rattle snakes around, you can bet I would keep a can on my person. Or at least have a walking stick or something.An old friend of mine use to live in Mississippi, where there are a lot of water moccasins. Her house was an older one with rails around the front porch. One day she walked out onto the porch and a big moccasin was laying out on the rail. She want back into the house and got her wasp spray (the kind that shoot pretty far). She sprayed the snake as much as she could. She said it went CRAZY. After that, it slithered away toward the back yard. About an hour or so later, she found it dead around the side of her house.

@bbk I wish they made small sizes! I will definitely have some before I go mow the yard and do the beds not to mention carrying it in the car. In fact, I think every car and room should have some! It looks like I need a case discount!

I know the cans are big, but if you've ever used it, you know that in order for them to spray from far away, there has to be a lot in the can.

@Catmae I have to say I have only seen this ONE rattlesnake but it was enough. Most people do not know that rattlesnakes can be in the dunes and grasses on the beach, Our security guard also does the meter reading for the water and finds them in there. He's killed a bunch of them. I am buying him some spray, too!

@ladybeachbum Not only are they in the dunes, but they swim in the salt water too!

@Catmae I've owned my beach home for twenty years and you know how close to the water it is but I've not seen one in it. I would freak! I don't go far out but I do go in the water for shells. Now, I have to carry spray in the water, too? Thanks ....I think!

I would love to have it in the car with me but if you read the cautions on the can it says keep it away from any flames & it says DO NOT EXPOSE TO TEMPERATURES OF 130 degrees because the can, can explode ! In the south your car can & does reach temps higher than that . There are other warnings as well so read the can .
