@West-Tex : I'm not surprised. They have canceled other several high profile events within the Houston and Austin area. I am definitely not going. Not worth the risk for me. Too many people and too close of quarters.

At this point, it is just irresponsible to NOT cancel, but whatever, I can only do my part to make sure I'm not putting myself and family at risk.

My question is where does this end? Do we now cancel church services, close schools and restaurants, cancel ball games, forbid picnics in the park, etc. There's a thin line between caution and utter panic. I think we're beginning to cross that line.

@lynnsgirl :

I appreciate your opinion my ADC friend. But again I ask how far is too far in regards to interrupting our lives. As you may know reports are the overwhelming majority of people that are afflicted with this virus survive it. Additionally around 80% of those exhibit mild symptoms. However, people over 60 and those with weakened immune systems and other underline issues need to exhibit more caution.

That said until an effective treatment or cure is found do we just stop living in the meanwhile?

@rocket : I think contain now so we don't have to cancel so much in the future. The Rodeo in Houston is Prime Time as far as foot traffic. Harris County is the largest county in America. The timeline for these travellers from Egypt is 21 FEB 2020.

Japan shutdown in order to save the Olympics. Look at their numbers compared to ours (U.S.) in that link you provided. Our number of deaths has surpassed theirs and their number of recoveries has surpassed ours. It will be interesting to see if our infected numbers surpass theirs by Monday.

The catch 22 is all the riders and animals brought here already and how costly it is to get them here and put them up. It will be interesting to see how it all works out. It will be a sad loss to the kids this year but we shouldn't want to lose one life over it either.

@eighteen :

I get your point. But as I said we're starting to panic which in the end will do nothing. What I hope we get out of all of this is the recognition of the importance of science in general and medical research in particular to combat exotic diseases we have not seen before. To that end we need to ensure we give an adequate amount of money and resources to that endeavor not only to defeat the current outbreak but also the next. Because make no mistake there will be another.

Then there's this:

www.click2houston.co m/health/2020/03/07/ latest-follow-the-de velopments-of-t

Not to mention if any of these people confirmed or suspected to have the coronavirus went to the polls along with 3 million+ other Harris County voters between February, 21st - March, 3rd.

Now, I'm not trying to make people panic, but please be AWARE. I'll be damned if I get sick from going to the store to pick up some milk. Ain't nobody got time for that around here. If you decide to put yourself at risk please, I beg of you, take the necessary precautions.

Here is that statement from the Houston Rodeo following the cancellation of SXSW:

"At this time, the 2020 Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo is continuing as planned, with additional precautionary measures in place, which can be found on our Health Tips webpage. "

"With the news of the cancelation of the SXSW Festival, many questions have arisen regarding the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo. According to Austin health officials, cancelation was partially due to the travel of international guests. While both the Rodeo and SXSW are musical events, the attendees differ significantly. The Rodeo is predominantly a local event, with 73% of the 2019 Rodeo visitors residing in the greater Houston area, 94% in Texas, and 99% in the U.S. In contrast, 26% of the 2019 SXSW attendees were international."

"We are continuing to monitor the situation and collaborate daily with Harris County and City of Houston officials, and the Houston Health Department."

I did a little research. 90 people per day die from car accidents in our country. CV hasn't even reached this point yet. No need to panic. I continue to drive everyday.

I totally agree. I am glad First Lego League did not cancel their Nationals this morning and TV he stadium gym at Stafford High School was full of kids and adults but nothing wrong with being cautious as most of us today since we brought wipes and hand sanitizers for all day use.
