@chasinghosts : You absolutely can move away from it. Eventually even the most open minded, well intentioned folks have to admit when they've been overrun by poor culture. Trying to fix it is like trying to hug a rabid dog.

@WeveBecomeEastHouston : Oh what I meant was, you can move away from it but eventually it will come to where you move to. There is no 100 % safe place. No guarantees. I live in a great neighborhood, but every now and then something stupid happens, still a great neighborhood though.

@chasinghosts : People rent for all kinds of reasons: business, hurricane harvey (2017), hurricane Katrina (2005), hurricane Camille (1969)...

@WeveBecomeEastHouston : Exactly, and yes, some get in a rut, and can't get out too. But know this, alot that rent are possibly paying more than your mortgage to do so every month too, depending on where they live.

@chasinghosts : Yes, but the renters don't have to pay HOA dues, property taxes, nor shell out thousands on repairs or replacements the water heater, the roof, a/c unit, etc, etc..

@mayorofnothing : How do you know that? It could all be tied into their payment or their lease, like an extra fee like how they do for pets. Normal wear and tear like a roof or water heater going bad would be the landlord's responsibility anyway. Not something a neighbor should ever worry about. It's not something we're ever going to get away from so why waste our breath?

@chasinghosts : I don't see why not. There are several good things that will result from this planned move.

@seegee : I hope so, it's always great to be optimistic. I was completely shocked when I moved down here and hear all that was going on around here. Heads being found on the bridge etc. , and we came from an inner city street where there was a shooting on it at least once a week for a few years. It wasn't like that when we moved there, but it evolved into that. Best wishes in your new abode wherever it is.
