@Ladyfairlane I was hoping one of you would tell me what to do. I really have a crappy barbeque at the beach because the salt air kills it. I just ask DH if it is usable and he said barely. It is only 4 months old.

@Ladyfairlane I do have a gas one next door but I normally do not use it. I need a good rub for the oven maybe or find a grill that will withstand the salt?

Geez, only 4 months? Wonder if you should drag it in the house when not in use.

Truth is, salt and pepper rub is all we use and all you need, however, if done in the oven, you won’t get the smoked flavor.

The fix may be for you to use smoked salt. You can get it at HEB where the nuts and organicas are near the produce department.

Or any of the rubs made by Head Country will work as they add smoked flavors to it.

FYI, Head Country makes the best BBQ sauce ever. All of their products are top notch.

Hope that helps.

Ps. You can also buy liquid smoke and try that before cooking or after. A little goes a long ways., it’s pretty potent. 😊

Also, make sure you wrap your brisket and set in a pan deep enough to catch all the juices.

@Ladyfairlane I've done them in the oven but have been spoiled when these beach guys get together and smoke them all night. I usually bring the m a couple to cook while they do the community ones. I may cook it for a while then put it on the grill. We usually buy a Weber medium size grill and it last for a year. I decided it wasn't big enough and bought a bigger one with DH rolling his eyes. I had to say this afternoon that it was a bad decision but I did say it would last for the season! The season is over! I would love to find something that would really last there. The trick would be to put them in storage but then you have to give renters the key to the storage and then they don't take them off the deck. It is just easier I guess to buy every 6 months. I bought one from Costco that stayed inside a covered deck. It was trash within two months.
I buy a rib, steak, etc rub from Heb that I love on steak. Would that work? I put it on some ribs and it was awesome but you just don't get the flavor with out the grill.

Hmm, have you tried “The Egg”? I think it’s porcelain or maybe ceramic. The frame is metal, but you can replace it as often as needed. It gives a real even cook but you have to watch the timing because it cooks faster than on a regular smoker. That’s for sure your answer.

@Ladyfairlane I'm not sure! I bought something last year that DH had to have that was a stainless smoker. In fact , it was just before Thanksgiving and he was cooking the turkey. WAS...is the word. Hours later when everyone was starving I finally put that bird in the oven. I think we pull out some steaks. I bought it at Alspaughs but I think we (he) didn't read the directions. I saw it in one of the storage areas the other day! If I do it in the oven it will be good but not the good that comes from the grill.

That is so cool. I would really like to build something enclosed. Actually, I just want good barbeque whatever it takes! I should be focusing on cooking fish!

This is the last home improvement job we did using everything we had left over from knocking our chimney down for the pool patio. DH67 is very talented. I draw it on paper he builds it. 😊

Excuse the mess around it, lol.

Beautiful! If I ever get to work on this home, I'd love to get back to cooking by the pool.

@Ladyfairlane Did DH do all the brick work? I saw an awesome setting at HomeGoods with grill and refrigerator and a bar. It was awesome and cheap. I just knew we were not ready for it yet but man I almost went to get the truck. I am thinking it was less that $1k and had everything . I regret not getting it!
