We can still hope, and maybe get some change back when we pay the bill. I want to build a wall and tax(but we won't call it that) everyone who comes through and buy everyone great, beautiful coverage.

I never quite understood the idea that HSA's will have that large of an impact. How many reports have we seen in the past about people not saving enough money for emergencies and retirement. Now we're expecting these people to find money to put in a HSA. I just don't see that happening unless the government seeds the accounts.

@daddyo9 I had one for years and it worked amazingly. Would you rather send and extra $600 a month to an insurance company for coverage you might need, or save that money in an account that is tax deductible and if you don't spend it until you need it?

We'll see. If it will be less expensive ,then someone will receive less.

I get that for those that can afford to put aside the money it works. But there are plenty of folks that can't or won't be able to. Also it's suppose to be an add on to insurance and not a replacement. Or at least that is how the one through my employer works.

I may not know exactly how they work, but it is impossible to put away enough to cover all potential health issues.

Mostly correct........pair it with a high deductible catastrophic plan and use the HSA for routine medical expense......at your choosing.

Not acceptable in ACA.......you will incur the penalty ....errr tax.

And back to the OP, the CBO can only score what has been presented.......it is incomplete at this point.....

@tflea Are you completely unaware of how this works? You have to have an insurance plan that is "compatible" with an HSA.

And no, it wasn't "high deductible". It was $5000 a person/ $10000 family. Obamacare deductible are HIGHER and HIGHER premiums.

@daddyo9 If they can't save money in an HSA how on earth are they paying inflated premiums and deductibles Obama has mandated?

For years insurance benefits at work were paired back and premiums raised pre ACA. Then we had a health savings account and while those savings were not taxed in the end medical cost were much more out of pocket when you count spent HSA, deductibles and premiums. People do know how this works.

@atascabob
Clearly you don't get it. It was always cheaper to have an HSA pre Obama. Now the Obama plans cost more and have higher deductibles and you can't write off your medical expenses. Please research things before you make uniformed statements.

Remember "Universal Access" and "privatization" coming soon to healthcare near you.

Medicare privatization is being touted by Repubs. but they claim it's a separate issue.

So if it's privatized that means insurance co will now have those plans and profit from them right BusyMommy?

Clearly you cant do math. Historically HSAs have saved people money. Those are the facts, even if you don't understand how it works. Lack of knowledge is how Obamacare was passed.

@BusyMommy
I got the impression that most of people on the exchange qualified for the subsidies.

I would rather see tax money spent on community clinics than going to make insurance companies money.

My employer's parent company is starting to do this. When they have a large enough presence in an area they open a walkin clinic with a pharmacy that is free to use for employees and their family. Its cheaper to set up the clinic and pay the staff a salary than pay out through insurance.
