Good deal...I know they're both smart enough not to get too close. Maybe they'll see them and tell a teacher. Emoticon

She asked me for money outside of Culver's I refused. When I came back out, she had keyed my car. I obviously have no sympathy for her. She caused much damage to my brand new car.

He applied for SSI and SSDI back in Aug 2013- he JUST got accepted in June of this year- almost 3 years.

@Jpgurl :

That's the problem. It's an atrocity that they make it so difficult to get mental health help. We live in a country with incredible resources for other issues. It's downright shameful that this issue continues to be neglected.

I'm glad your son is safe. 💜 Emoticon

Thanks for sharing your story and reminding us that each and every homeless person is someone's son or daughter.
There is a large gap between how folks think things should be and how they actually are.

I've helped this man, and spoken to him often. He's not begging for anything, just trying to get back on his feet from hardships. He goes to the Humble House every morning for work....EVERY MORNING...rain or shine, walks to 2+ miles to get work. If we as a community would sometimes band together and help one another rather than automatically condemning someone for something that could easily be any one of us should 1 or 2 situations change suddenly, I think we would get alot further in being the "Atascocita" that I grew up in...that we all remember. "But for the Grace of God go I...."

He is not there during school hours...He is trying to make money by taking any and all odd jobs offered. The only thing he's ever asked from me is prayers...

It's one man....not a city...and he is not there during school hours. He is a nice man...just down on his luck and trying to get back on his feet.

I wonder why he doesn't camp closer to Humble House?

Are you sure the man you know is the one in the tent? What type of job is he looking for?
You shouldn't criticize some of our posters for not knowing who these people are. There have been alot of dishonest people in this area scamming for money. We have all given at one time or another. And the world has changed. There are other areas someone could pick to stay other than near a school.

Exactly. That's just a poor judgement call given the fact no one seems to know the history/story behind it.

I do feel for him and commend him for working hard to change his circumstances if that's true.

Some of us have lived where homeless gathered and dealt with the drug and mental issues as well as the theft, and human feces smeared on stuff as retribution for not assisting their needs.

We have a huge homeless issue, and should be compassionate, if we spent half the money towards homeless care that we spend on sports authority, we could solve the problem. But, the more we support and comfort directly without using the proper mechanisms for support, the more we assist with some if the issues that brought them to where they currently are.

Some avoid shelters due to the rules of conduct. I understand some just don't want to ask for help.

If these folks showed up at your chirch this Sunday, would you introduce yourself? Would you fear them or shun them? Would you love them or just look at them with disdain? Would you be willing to help them? Folks, these are our neighbors. It is not a crime to be homeless or in need.

Is this possibly a family? Do they have children?

If you claim to be a person of faith, put that faith to action. Love your neighbor. Share the Gospel. Be the Church.

Are they able to stay at the Humble House? I am going to look that up. There always seems to be sitting out on the porch there.

@HellfighterGJ Welcome! When you get to know the people who post on ADC, you will realize how very compassionate this group of people are. Have a blessed day. BTW. We have donated money to some just to find out that a new car was purchased.

@jpgurl. Have you considered Bryan Texas as residence for your son? I have an older sister with mental health issues and we found an assisted living home in Bryan. She is the youngest person there but it has been a good place to live for her.
