@cador : Makes sense. Much of what you have posted is accurate, but the stuff you posted that wasn't was so far from accurate that i had to chime in. No offense.

** and I am not giving legal advice. Instead, I just wanted to make sure that incorrect information was not spread around as fact. I will not post anymore and will return to the shadows. Haha

I can assure you nobody will be going after assets.

@UNREAL :
I corrected that above.

then focus on the store because the store likely has plenty of coverage.

How do you know they have liquor liability, most of them don't.

Also, whether or not the parents owned the car is irrelevant unless a claim for negligent entrustment

It does matter, been through too many claims to know better. If the cars in their name, they can be held legally responsible without the claimants having to go through all that other stuff, which I admit I don't know the ins and outs on.

This was not so much as a party but a get together with several more people. Media called it "party". There was 1 more boy here, and three other girls. Parents were there. They left for a ride after their house, and that's when they bought the alcohol and they hung out outside of their house, I don't mean someone's driveway but somewhere else. Unless you personally were amongst the kids that night, you don't know who drank, how much, and who didn't.
Thank God our teenager kids are alive, and I don't even want to know what I'd do in that case. We don't know how we're going to react until it happens. He was a driver - he's responsible, they're not alive to defend themselves. Can we please stop with the speculations and judgments?
I know Salma's parents personally, and I was always assured that they're going to be home during whatever party they hosted.
You can trust your kid, you can check and recheck but when they're together doing something, you can never be 100% positive that they will stick to your teachings. My DD says she'd never drink or do drugs, or text and drive. I trust her but I'm still worried. I don't stick my head into sand and say "My sweet angel would never do something like that", I pray that she doesn't, and check with parents, or her location, or her phone and backpack... I may be blamed for invading her privacy but at least I'll sleep a little better knowing that she is where she says she is and that she's not doing something she's not supposed to.

The plaintiffs will settle with Jaggar and his family for policy limits and then focus on the store because the store likely has plenty of coverage.

@UNREAL :

This is the way I see it from experience, in our society when a loss as horrific as this one occurs there are never any winners, there can't be. No amount of money in the world will ever bring those girls back. For myself the comment by the defense attorney was unnecessary, hurtful and inflammatory. We are a society of rules and laws which are in place to try to prevent occurrences like the one that happened. We require insurance to cover damages and loss for drivers to try to compensate victims of wrongful actions, that is what insurance is for.
The family of those girls suffered a horrific loss that most likely will require therapy to help them cope, this unfortunately costs money. The driver will also most likely need therapy, those girls were his friends. The only thing those families can get from our judicial system to compensate for the empty place in there hearts those girls used to fill with love and joy is a monetary reward that I can guarantee you that they would never be in the position to want. I think I speak for all decent folk who would never trade the life of a loved one for all the money in the world. Also the monetary cost resultant from the wrongful act serves as a deterrent along side any criminal penalties.

Some may not realize but I know people who have been in similar circumstances that carry the emotional and financial burden of these events for life.

I pray for healing for all and would ask all who render opinions in this situation to think and try to consider the impact of your words.

Does anyone here know anyone that was at the "get together"? Cuz I have heard all kinds of stories from people who knew them but weren't there that particular night. From what others say, this wasn't the first, and it wouldn't have been the last time they drank.

I wish there was a way to measure how this tragedy has impacted the community:

How many stores have stopped selling to underage kids? My guess is 1

How many kids have stopped drinking or doing drugs? My guess is 0

@UNREAL : I tend to disagree with you. Their decision definitely cost them their lives. To have called home and a parent comes to get them would have saved their lives. My view is ONLY that as parents teach their teens that you will get up at any time and come get them and never get in a car with someone driving that has been drinking. I preached it and I picked up my son about 3 times at 2 am. He's alive and at 28 still knows the rule.

@OBalls : This is probably the best post you have typed....ever. It is such a sad situation. I can imagine how the parents of all three have felt and still are feeling. Money won't ease the pain but it is what stops some from doing the deed. There's not enough money in the world to compensate me for my son if it happened.

@ladybeachbum : My Dd's Driving Instructor talked to the kids about WHAT IFs? They talked about good and bad options. She encouraged her students to talk to their parent(s) and sign a contract, so if they had concerns about driving/riding, CALL PARENT for safe ride home-anytime-anywhere-no lectures-barnstorm talks the following day! We all agreed and signed the contract. This lady was amazing and Dd was better prepped because the WHAT IFs. If something happened, she was not blindsided and understood it was better to be safe than sorry!!

The concerns did not just include (self or other person) drinking alcohol or doing drugs: **not feeling well, **bad weather (heavy rain, fog, freezing road conditions), **car issue (mechanical), or **feeling weird (refers to spiked/drugged drinks).

This rule is still in place TODAY......My 2 kids are grown and includes also applies to DIL and SIL -ranging from 26-31. Sheep happens......better safe than sorry!!

As a SHM, my house was where the kids and their friends hung out at plus they loved our pool. All of the kids were respectful, polite, thoughtful and were/still are really good responsible kids.

One of the guys was a year older than my son, so he was the first to turn 21. 🎉🎉. He came over as usual, but something was different.....loud, kinda rude and drunk! He didn't drink here and had nothing with him. After a short time he was ready to leave, burn his keys had been put up and the battle began. There was no way in H*LL I was going to let him leave this house.....this guy was like a son and I would have been haunted forever if.....
The kids tried to reason with him.....just got mad, he was 21 and he was fine to drive. This guy drove a car that shook and rattled my windows upon his arrival, so he wasn't going to be flying under any cop radar as he blow past them. I finally convinced him if he had to go home, we would take him. My son could have taken him, but because he was so belligerent. The next morning is car was missing, he called my son freakin out his car had been stolen.....cursing every other word. He remembered absolutely NOTHING about the day before. My son brought him over to pick up his car......so embarrassed!!
He thanked me many, many times and said he appreciated that we really had his back...because as loud as his car was-- could have been in JAIL or worst!!!!! The fact he remembered nothing at all.....EYE OPENING to ALL!

@hutch5801 : Good for you and it is good that he understood that you saved his butt. It is just not worth the risk. I don't drive after I have had one Pappasito's margarita and back in the old days I could drink all night. Thankful that young man is alive to tell his story.
