@Sammee

Agreed, but I would bet that the great majority of people posting here would do the same if placed in their position. I would.

Anyone that would argue that the Mexico / US border should not be tightly controlled is not even a reasoned individual.
The amount of meth, cocaine, guns and worse, crossing that border everyday, along with the illegal immigrants is staggering.
I cannot tolerate the stupid argument of good people are crossing that border...of course there are!!! so fix the friggin' immigration system so those people may have a reasonable expectation at relocation or not....and secure the damn border!.

@Fairlane67 or how about the argument that we are all illegal considering the plight of the American Indians.

Such a straw man argument.

I think that we are tilting at windmills if we try to stop the flow of illegal immigrants by closing the border. They will tunnel under (which they are doing now), take boats to unprotected beaches (which they are doing now), travel to Canada and cross from there (which they are doing now), get smuggled in hiding in the bottom of a truck (which they are doing now) or any other of a hundred ways they can get into the country. There is no way we can protect the thousands of miles of border that we have.

My solution is to make it so they don't want to come here. I would pass a law that says that if you employ, rent or provide housing, sell a vehicle, provide healthcare or provide education to any undocumented person, you could be subject to a fine of $50,000 per undocumented person. And, I would provide a "bounty" that would pay $25,000 to anyone who turns in a person doing any of these things. If you are "legal", you will have the documents you need to exist and live. If not, go home. This also would provide a means for checking visas for those who came here "legally" then just stayed. If your student visa expires - no education, job, etc. If your temporary work visa expires, no job.

That way, even if they come into the country, they will not be able to find work, not be able to find a place to stay, not be able to educate their children, buy a car, or anything. So, why come?

@macdaddy
Aren't the Republicans trying to sway all the latinos? Bush is even speaking Spanish. Maybe that will become the white House language if he is elected.

And the other fact is , Huckabee is right about the great majority of them.

Huckabee said that people coming to the United States from foreign countries in Latin America are “some of the hardest-working people … and some of the most conservative, family-oriented and faith-based people I’ve ever witnessed.”

BOTH major political parties are trying to court the Hispanic vote. Since an overwhelming majority of illegal immigrants are of Hispanic descent that presents a major headache for political operatives on all sides.

President Obama and presidential candidate Hillary Clinton are proposing measures to ease deportations of some categories of illegals. As many of you well know President Reagan signed an amnesty bill and modern republican presidential candidates like Marco Rubio are touting a pathway to citizenship.

In regards to the SF incident apparently California has a state law in regards to sanctuary protection for some illegals. Which is unusual because normally local municipalities decide this sort of thing for themselves. Either way I disagree with it. When ICE places a detainer on an individual it's done for a reason. In most cases because the individual is either a prior deport or is currently going through deportation proceedings.

In any event these detainer request should be honored by all law enforcement authorities.

@niceguy
I agree with substantial penalties to businesses. But it seems we almost live on different planets from the President and Congress. They are not interested in a fix because what is right for people of both countries...It really is baffling.

But I disagree with the idea to not secure the border. The flow of drugs and everything bad that goes along with that, is unreal and have devastating consequences on the population (all races).
