I think Switzerland

@nikkiole :
I have a buddy that just got back from Switzerland, he's with Exxon and agreed/applied, however that works to do a stint over there. They loved it, said they had neighborhoods and schools ect that were just for the Americans over there working but it was awesome country over there. He has a family, I was thinking it would be pretty cool as a single fellow as myself to be over there, with all those great looking Swiss gals. Or (and more than likely), they wouldn't want anything to do with an American and I'd be over there without a date one for however long EmoticonEmoticonEmoticon.

cador : Have you considered any other place?

@nikkiole :
Not seriously, always think about it when you see a movie, or a reality show when they are visiting a foreign country, that it would be cool to live there. However, in my career, not much chance of me getting transferred and just to go over and start up selling ins to foreigners (wouldn't be foreigners if I was living there, but....) is "probably" not going to work, lol.

You can live in Panama like a king or queen for $2000 a month... excluding housing. Lots of Americans, retirees and young, have made the move.

Water, trash and sewer runs for about $10 a month, electricity $60 a month, gas $5 a month, groceries $100-150 per person per month, etc. No... I didn't leave a 0 out.

Good standard of living, safe except the ghettos, a lot of people speak English, only 4 hr non stop from IAH

@nikkiole : It's a tempting thought while working from home to rent some place on the beach or other body of water and work from there for a month or two.

@nikkiole :

I was told about a couple of month ago to apply for overseas position in Canada. I currently have friends in Calgary and Toronto who keep telling me to come but now my daughter new school opportunity and plus my son therapy school have put a damper on those plans. I even turned down assignments for tdy to hotspots in troubled areas for this same reason. That is okay I got 7 more years.

Leaving America Has anyone here ever considered or is currently considering moving out of America, either temporarily or permanently? Why is that a decision you're thinking about? And where would you like to go and why? I'll go ahead and say: Please no fighting with others and questioning someone's patriotism. All of us here love America, but we are also citizens of the world. It's okay to think about going elsewhere.

@nikkiole : I have friends that have moved to Italy, Spain and Portugal. I am also lucky enough to have husband's family in Australia & Italy, and my dear friends in Ireland, England and Scotland so at least if we want to get away for an extended stay we can. Don' t think I could move so far from my personal family and friends though, TX was far away enough. It's been pretty hard.
