I took my first work trip across Houston since the social distancing came about, and some of what I saw was worrisome. I traveled through some side streets off of 290 area, lots of metro bus passengers loading and unloading, most with no gloves or masks. Many businesses open that I would have thought not to be essential. In some areas, you can hardly tell that people are supposed to be staying home. At home, there are dog walkers, joggers, and bikers by the dozens. Small packs of kids running around or riding bikes.
I was interested to hear this morning that the projected total death toll in the US had been reduced, judging by current social distancing results. The interesting part to me was that the original number was based on the assumption that only 50% of citizens would comply with the stay-at-home order. Apparently we are having a higher percentage of participation (although it doesn't always seem so), but it doesn't appear they had much faith in us to begin with.
