@BlessedMom : I don't think that we are the only country that did not take this too serious from the beginning. I have family in Germany and have been following the development on this before there was much talking about this over here in the US. Germany is having the same problems as we have, not enough supplies, they even sold needed equipment to China still in Jan/Feb. even so the suppliers were asking the government if it was o.k. to ship, or should we keep it for ourselves? Now they are scrambling also.
Just had an email from a personal friend, that thinks he may have the virus, he is on a 3 day waiting list to get tested. Sure, they seem to have more testing in place then we do. And I know of several cases right in the neighborhoods of my family and friends.
On the day, our governor in Texas, March 13, declared State of Emergency, in Germany nothing was closed, they did not close anything until the following week. My kids have been working from home since the 16th. The stay at home orders there did not come until around the 20th, and also the states decided on themselves, the government in Berlin was still discussing....
I don't think government can fix everything, sure there needs to be leadership and supplies, but there is still so much unknown about this virus and in my opinion this will still take a while to find out as well what the cure is. Of course we could have been better prepared. If we would have closed everything on February 1st to avoid, everyone would have said????.
We will just have to do the very best for ourselves to keep distance right now, maybe not run around shopping at Home Depot every day, and take the precautions we know at the moment.
Everyone stay safe.

What PPE do they need? I wouldn't think the PPE would be the expensive part so I don't see where the problem is. Gloves are cheap. Alcohol wipes are cheap. Soap is cheap. Safety masks are cheap. Face shields are cheap to clean. What can the city not afford to provide? Because the PPE is not expensive. Maybe it's expensive because they are buying things via the government x10 cost? $2.00 for a $0.16 pair of disposable gloves would get expensive.

@DiverDude : They said last night it's costing so much more because they are using about 6 times the usual amount of items. They have to change gowns, masks and gloves after every patient.

@AGLLM : The whole situation is Overwhelming. I pray that this will pass soon. Yesterday I had to take a break from the news, it's just too much... I barely sleep. I decided that there's nothing left for me to do but pray so I'm putting all my worries in God's hands. I will find strength, comfort, hope and peace through my faith.

BTW- I was born in Wiesbaden, Germany I'm blessed to be here. I have been trying to keeping up to date on Wiesbaden and the western region.

Nobody is telling older people to go die,

@BusyMommy :

This is what BlessedMom is referring to. Dan Patrick of Texas did in fact say that older people should risk their lives for economy and grandchildren.

@HumbleGirl : if that article is true, why doesn't the gov outlaw all exports of the masks and other critical supplies?

HumbleGirl : if that article is true, why doesn't the gov outlaw all exports of the masks and other critical supplies?

@Yep : he should. But that falls under the same thing Cuomo said while working with all the local and private hospitals.
What he is telling them to do makes sense in the crisis but is that exact opposite of how private businesses and our capitalist market works.
Stopping companies from making a profit and working together with their competitors.

Yes we need to tell some American companies that they can't sell certain products to certain people so the Government can have a temporary monopoly over them.

Say that sentence and any other time and people will short circuit.

It needs done, will they actually place those rules on private companies. 🤷‍♂️
They need to right now though.

@chasinghosts : I don't mean to sound as though I'm griping, but they are claiming that you can wash items to kill the virus. ...just saying.
If it were me (as someone who would actually protect themselves) I would not change the mask. Once it's in place, leave it in place. If you are protecting yourself from possible contaminated air then removing your mask to install another one basically defeats the purpose. Gowns can be washed. Gloves ...change OFTEN!
I don't mind paying $0.05 more in taxes to help protect health care employees. I just hope they aren't spending $5.00 on something that they should be spending $0.50 on. I've seen a few of the medical transactions. They are profitable!
