@CelticStorm : Whataburger is the same way. Adds for extras but no reduction for items cut.

The day I start worrying about getting 10 cents back cause I didn't want the tomato on my HB, so it makes by burger $7.89 instead of $7.99 (if I'm really trying to save that mth maybe i'll cut the pickle too for another 10 cents savings) is the day I start looking for another job, or something. What a headache that would be for restaurant mgmt. AND customers, for a few cents.

Not a fan of Hippo either... the meat had a funny taste to me... not bad just maybe too much fat or something in it.... Also when I went it was extremely crowded and hot and i felt like the people around me were just sitting in my lap ..... but obviously I am in the minority lol!

@DrBill : As stated, everyone (but Chick-fil-A as pointed out in a later comment) does this which is why I'd like to open up something that doesn't.

@cador No headache involved. Same buttons on the POS. And if you can program it to add money, you can program it to deduct money.

Early on it was about saving money. Now it is principal. Please see my Taco Bell example above. Some people leave stuff on the burger because "I paid for it!" and end up wasting it.

Also, when tomato prices skyrocketed a few years ago, some places had signs out specifying if you wanted tomatoes, you had to ask for them AND be charged extra due to the shortage.

It's a profit center. Just like Tip Jars at self-service places.

No headache involved.

@CelticStorm :
There's a headache no doubt. One thing to charge for cheese, bacon etc that cost at least a buck, but for stuff like lettuce, tomato, pickle, "leave the mustard off if it's gonna save me a few cents", a friggin headache.
We've owned a restaurant before, the extra work involved just in having my cashier deal with it would make my HB's cost atleast a dollar more, much less everything else extra would increase my prices a hell of a lot more than a chingy 20/30 cents off for a cheap customer.
Gosh the headaches, then where does it stop. "I don't want gravy on my CFS, give me $ back, cut the sour cream on my bake potato and give me 55 cents, how much can I save if I order with no chives, how about no butter, and on my salad, how much can I save if I want to do without croutons, cause I want them, but if I could save 50 cents, I may skip them, etc etc. Those poor waitress's/cashiers 😀

@cador : Not sure if you had a modern POS like most chains do, but it's just programming on the backend by management.

And if you decided to ONLY offer a Deluxe Hamburger with Bacon, Avocado, and feta cheese, and then charge me to substitute American for the feta? Where is your increased cost? And further, you used to have just a plain burger for say $5 but now I have to pay $10 for the Deluxe Burger and have everything left off. I am eating the same thing but my cost doubled. And, because I left everything off which means you can sell it to the next guy, you've increased your profit by padding your menu and your pockets.

Or, let's make the bowl of gravy we give you smaller, and then charge you when you need more? It's a racket!

I'm not talking about "chingy" things - it's the things over time I've seen restaurants do. Such as the new thing down here of charging extra for a to go order.

Remember when in the cost of your Domino's Pizza, delivery was included in the price? Now it's $3 and the tip has gone up from back in the day! And the driver doesn't even get the delivery fee!

And again, if I substitute one thing for another like item, why charge me like I was getting both.

It doesn't make sense!

Littlegoo Speaking of Hippo, the last time we were at the Atascocita location, one of the guys said that the Wilson location was moving to a bigger space a few doors down.. That will be great!

@FNULNU1954 : it looks like they already have. Same strip center but they are now in the end space on the far left. We passed by there last night when we left dos gallos

@cador : So it's like a real thick patty? If that's the case the balance isn't right for me either . I need to taste more flavors than just the meat for me to think it's good .

When are they opening?
DD went and applied for a job with them. But of course she had to try their burgers first Emoticon
She brought one for me. I liked them a little more than Hippy Burgers because their buns don't get that soggy. And I even ate mine after being in the fridge for a half a day and microwaved. It was still good, I can only imagine what they're like when hot and fresh

I've never had a DIRTY Juicy Burger & likely will never try one . I don't like the word DIRTY attached to a food I'm about to eat .
