Our house is clean-ish from 9 pm till 5 am. The dishes are clean, sink is dry, towels are nicely hung. It's a constant battle. I either do some sort of cleaning all day long or one big clean up before bedtime.
I almost never have dirty laundry hampers empty. As soon as I do 5 loads, I find a pair of socks under the coffee table.
We bought a separate basket for DD so, I can put her clothes into her basket but now she ends up with both baskets and they're always full of clean and dirty clothes mixed together.
I realize that I should be thankful that I have loving kind people around me but do they have to be dirty? Emoticon
DD doesn't care about stuff like that and I am trying not to be too overbearing but it's difficult for me. I am a neat freak but I also don't want to break my back trying to keep the house neat.

I've given up on the idea of having a tidy house. It will be clean--cleaned floors, clean bathrooms, clean linens, sanitary kitchen, clean clothes. However, I have lost the battle of the clutter on horizontal surfaces. I admit defeat. Tidiness is a thing of the past. Once DD goes off to college, my house will be tidier...and I will probably miss her messiness.

@Sammee
It really impacted me because at the time I was crazy perfectionist about my housekeeping- I mean to the point of OCD and I used to get extremely annoyed at my husband's existance in my my immaculate home.
And it shut my Mom up. I loved her to death but dang she yammered

@TXNS_fan Dang girl you got to stop that- my kids did their own laundry by age 9. And from about age 4 to 9 they had their own baskets- if dirty clothes didn't make their way to the basket it didn't get washed. And clean clothes were put away immediately. You are not the house maid you are the CEO of Domestic Engineering

I remember, before I had a child, my friends who had children would come over to my house and comment on how clean it was and how they wished they could keep their houses as clean. I reminded them that I didn't yet have kids, so I didn't have all of that extra gear, clutter, toys, and lack of time to pick it all up as we went along. My husband and I both worked, so nobody was here to live in the house for 50% of the day, of course it stayed neat and tidy. Ahhhhh....memories.

I just try to keep in mind that a home goes through phases of tidiness as the years and stages of life pass. For now, I get to enjoy the orderliness of my empy-nest friends and retired friends houses. Mine will get back there one day. Today, cluttered table tops and counters are my frenemies. When someone is coming over, I clear it all off into a shopping bag and hide it in my room. I now have three or four bags that I have to sort through...Lol.

Ladies, always remember this.... There is nothing sexier than a woman scrubbing the floors....(unless she's wearing a ham & cheese sandwich while she's scrubbing)
Carry on.

Remember, I have 5 kids, I am a domesticated male! Trust me, I help my wife any chance I get, and honestly don't know how she does what she does, I'd be lost without her!

I should think a 50 yr marriage to 1 & only 1 man is proof enough--1 we love each other -- 2 we excel at problem solving 3 --we have steadfastness .We dated 4 &1/2 yrs before we got married . We didn't enter a marriage with rose colored glasses on . Far as I know a little B&%$*#&% never hurt anybody !LOL
