Do not take any advice from any lawyer that is not a lawyer in the state of Louisiana . The state of La has very very different laws then any other state & I will tell you that lawyers in Tx don't understand La law . Hunt Oil Company Attorneys gave advice to my mothers uncle that was wrong over some farm land minerals that my mother & her 2 sisters owned on their uncles farm & he owned as well under their farm . They shared & shared alike . This created a HUGE LONG LAWSUIT . This lawsuit ended up in Louisiana law books & my mom & her sisters & us kids won that suit . If you need help PM me & I'll give you my phone number . There is a lot I can tell you but the key thing is to get a LA lawyer .You need a complete understanding of exactly what all takes place or can take place if you sell the property where your minerals are located . If you got these minerals from perhaps a grandparent who left them to one of your parents or to you the lawyer will need to see that will .

elerNation I don't even want to lease. He specifically stated the term to be UNTIL THE WELL IS DRY!
I don't think that would be anytime soon! And I would like to keep it for my children and their children......so on.

@CE3673 :
Do you own just the minerals or the land & minerals ?

@bbk

We are going this week to review all the paperwork since my father's passing. My sister and I inherited the land and rights from what we were told earlier. Just going to see what is going on.

And yes LA law is way different than any other state from my understanding. The children not the spouse inherits everything! All backwards!

That's not an automatic thing that happens . Sounds like he had a will & he chose to give it to the 2 of you .

yes check it all out when you get there...laws are different state to state...and can be from county to county... in texas...don't let a high sales pitch fool ya...if it doesn't sound right find someone you feel good with to guide the way for ya...sounds like yall have both surface and mineral rights which can be negotiated ... check it out I can try and give you some general insight as far as questions you might have ...it can be mind boggling at times...theres a lot of negotiating that can be done that some may not think of...
