Robert Sitton - Humble ISD Board President
"I am a lifelong citizen of Humble ISD. I am part of three generations of graduates and currently have two children enrolled as students of this great school district. I, as well as my colleagues who also serve as trustees, have a vested interest in the future of Humble ISD. We all have kids or grandkids in the system or have spent most of our adult life as an employee of the district. We did not take the challenge of finding a replacement for Dr. Guy Sconzo lightly. We interviewed three different search firms, looking for the right fit. They brought to us a strong slate of candidates, in which we interviewed seven in round one and three finalist in round two. Dr. Elizabeth Fagen was unanimously chosen as the lone finalist, only after extensive personal research, intensive interviews and a trip to Douglas County. Myself and two additional trustees, made the trip to Douglas County to validate the interview process. We met with principals, teachers, administrators, board members and community leaders. Upon the conclusion of that trip and the reference calls that other trustees made, I can absolutely tell you Dr. Elizabeth Fagen and her abilities as a leader and her passion for kids and education, were validated.
We, as a board, set policy and vision for our school district; policy and vision that directly correlates to what our community values. The superintendent is hired to deliver education to our students based on those policies and that vision. What one board and community values versus another can be vastly different, not unlike Humble ISD and Douglas County. Through my research, the issues that have surfaced were board initiatives, many that were created before Dr. Fagen even arrived.
“school board has created the nation’s first suburban school-voucher program, introduced market-based pay, allowed its teachers’ union contract to expire, and developed a regimen of home-crafted standards and assessments in lieu of the Common Core (which superintendent Liz Celania-Fagen dismisses as the “Common Floor”).”
I can assure you; this board will continue to support the core values of this community. Dr. Fagen has done extensive research on Humble ISD and I can also assure you, she is committed to continue the legacy that Dr. Sconzo and his predecessors have built.
I love Humble ISD, I am excited about what the future holds and I support Dr. Elizabeth Fagen as our next superintendent."
