There is hope:

Now, the district must wait 21 days before extending a formal contract due to Texas state law. A formal motion to appoint Dr. Fagen is anticipated to occur at the June 14 School Board meeting

@blueyes : That is an awesome law to protect our school but Humble wont back out so I am afraid we are stuck with her. How did we spend that much money on a head hunter and that is what they produced ....So sad

Well, this lady is already creating a stir in H-town.
You think the board is having a "what was I thinking" moment?

@DaycareMom I wonder how much pull the people have and if they board will listen if they get enough signatures looks like they only need 388 more which I think they will get by the end of the day.

I will admit, not having time to read into much here...but I see she instituted a pay by merit type of program for teachers and a voucher program...I am not seeing this as a negative yet.
The illegal meeting thing makes me think Posterguy type of accusations...
So is it me missing something? I hope so.

@MooMaw :
No I bet they knew and did it anyway according to the current super he said it is to be expected from such a large district... So unless people really make a fuss I don't see it not happening.

Humble ISD school board has responded with a letter.....
Saying they are aware of the accusations and were not surprised by them......they are still in support of her...

@macdaddy :

Saw that too. Which leads to my next question: if you knew that was going to be the response, please tell us what makes her so great to put up with that much heat? Something must have been good enough to say, hey, we can overcome all that initial negative publicity.

I'd like to know what that was/is.

As the board had the foresight to be aware of her baggage; they should have also been expecting a response and been prepared to address appropriately. We will see in the coming days how well they prepared to the response.

As they attempt to separate her from the policies and direction of her district / they risk identifying her lack of control / being in charge.

normal suggestion is that she is responsible for all positive directions within district while the school board is responsible for the rest?

I would like to see the list of what she would like to take credit / blame for and what she would prefer to defer to the board.

that may speak to her character as well.

Above all - the person at the helm should be a good leader.

All evidence is to the contrary on this one.

has any evidence been provided to the contrary? Any supporters identified? Any defenders posting anywhere?

@redneck roy :

Good morning! And I'm very happy to report that today is a great day thanks to last night's Board meeting. First, our Board approved our 2016-17 Compensation Plan! After a number of months of workshop and committee meetings, careful analysis of our current and projected fiscal condition, and review of our market analysis of salaries, our Board again demonstrated their commitment to all of us!

While many area school districts are planning salary increases below 3%, our Board is awarding an average 3.5% pay increase to teachers, nurses, librarians, and speech therapy assistants, with a starting salary of $52,300. Full-time Teachers returning next year will receive a $1,800 to $1,900 salary increase in concert with the TASB Compensation Study recommendations. The average pay increase for other professional staff and administrative staff is 3%, and for auxiliary/classified staff is 4%. From my perspective, we continue to be very blessed to get to work for a very child focused and staff supportive Board of Trustees!

Also last night, our Board voted unanimously to name Dr. Elizabeth Fagen as our next Superintendent of Schools! I'm thrilled that she will be following me as she is a true Leader for Learning! I state that fully knowing of the unfortunate and in my view, unfounded posts from out of state on our district Facebook page. I also know that none of the nearly two-hundred posts from a district population of three-hundred thousand people came as a surprise.

I know and completely trust our Board members. I know and have worked closely with the three superintendent search consultants that assisted our Board. They all exhaustively checked and vetted all three finalists. They have chosen the best candidate to lead our family and build on the culture we have established.

I also know my assessment and trust my judgment. Liz is an outstanding and very accomplished educational leader. She researched our family well and understands who we are and what we value. Her passion is educating the whole child. Her responsibility, in leading the 67,000 student Douglas County School District since 2010 and prior to that, the Tucson Unified School District in Arizona, has been to further the policy decisions of those respective Boards. She will further the policy decisions made by our Board. I know that Liz's family is excited about joining Humble ISD and having her children attend our schools. I'm personally very excited to welcome Liz to our family and work closely with her through the transition!

We are the BEST Large School District in Texas and it's only going to get better going forward!

Thank YOU for your truly amazing work with and for all of our students! Believe me, it's noticed nation-wide!

Thanks!

Guy
