I work from home and prefer few interruptions so I'm not likely to answer the door if I'm not expecting someone. I become annoyed when a person rings the bell or knocks multiple times. If they didn't get a response the first few times they should realize that the door will not be opened for them and move along.

I came from a small town where we didn't even lock our doors. I am probably not paranoid enough living here. But since I don't know anyone, I don't answer the door. I let my dogs bark until they go away.

@Clydepuckett If she enters my yard while I'm outside watering I'd say hello to her & wait to see & learn from her why she has come to talk to me .Most I'd think want to talk about Christ or they are selling something .

I have one of my clients doing security cameras and an alarm at the beach. He is a retired Sheriff and had his best buddy a sheriff from a well known town with him just for the views and fishing. I mentioned I was not afraid there at all and they both said "do not think anywhere is safe, what we have both seen would make you never feel safe. Pack your gun at all times!" His entire crew was packing. So, I am sure he would say no to answering the door to a stranger. Occasionally, I will go out my back door and around to the front and explain my dogs won't allow me to answer for uninvited guest.

@ladybeachbum - Don't you rent that house? It would be best to have those for there just in case something ever happens to the property.

@Palm Springs This one isn't a rental. It is our house from hell and we can never make the roof stop leaking but it is on a piece of property that everyone wants on. They drive the security guy crazy so once it is done I can remotely see the area that is a problem and tell people to leave without taking up his time. I can see the parking lot of the rental but didn't want to make our guest uncomfortable thinking we are watching them because we wouldn't. Who has time for that? LOL This guy rents my house every 3 months so let him do the system.

I guess I'm in the minority here, but we (hub or I) answer the door to solicitors. I want anyone possibly casing the house to know that someone is home, and that we are happy to engage with them.

I've never been scared of anyone who has come by, but it's not in my nature to be scared anyway. I'm firm with them, but polite...and I have never had any problems...

@ladybeachbum - Most are oblivious to surveillance so you shouldn't worry about that. Especially if the cameras blend in. Trust me when I say people don't notice - I check on my phone to see who is at the door and the things folks do since they think nobody can see them. Emoticon

Too funny! That's totally me when the bell rings.. I'm shushing kids, kicking off my flip flops so I can sneak up to the peep hole..
