And part of the root cause is ignoring major infrastructure needs and maintenance in the decades prior to 2018. That is now all rearing it's head and costing significantly more than when it should have been done to begin with.

ParksideRes :
Wow! That has never been used in a political argument before. Way to think outside the box.

ParksideRes :
In reading the article, it makes clear why the increases are needed. However, there's no doubt it's not fun for the taxpayers. Holding taxes steady or decreasing them is good party politics. But that too comes with a price. In that people expect fine wine service on a beer budget.

So does the 90 million they want to use to put solar panels up on pubic building to help only 0.02 of the people in Harris Co. and the 223,000.00 for bill broads and the pay rises they want to give themselves and there is no telling what the pay rises for the sheriffs is going to coast us in the end. And they can't even get the drainage projects done on time and that is state money.

Well one thing to remember when these elected officials come up for reelection it the voters right to not vote for them for reelection send them home permanently and let them get a real job like we all have, and cut the excessive hiring of people who sit on their butts and collect a check for doing absolutely nothing and also these shovel leaning city and county employees watch while the real workers are actually doing the work. The county and city are top heavy and corrupt. and until the voters start doing their rights as voters and remove these lifelong politicians nothing will change.

Pretty soon private equity will be the only ones that will be able to buy a home. Taxes don't matter to people that can just pass it on to the next person. A homeowner is not buying a home as a investment, it is a necessity.

Itsme : you'll lose millions just putting to vote and the delays waiting up to a year.

Nothing will pass 2/3

ParksideRes : How will you lose millions? Cost that much to have a vote? Then have the vote when it is just one more printed line on a ballot. And if nothing will pass 2/3 maybe that is a good thing.

Itsme : Looks like an open bank for themselves. We don't need solar panels half the time they don't even work. When the budget is so tight, you take something out you don't make taxpayers pay more. Spending is definitely a problem with them. And how nice it is to give yourself a raise.

Atascocita888 : There isn't time to put large projects on the ballot once a year. Some things need to be done or decided much more quickly.

ParksideRes : Really? there isn't time to put large projects on the ballot? I thought all this stuff they are needing to do is because…….those republicans who once were in office did not DO THEM! They just let stuff fall apart, go to pot. So the dems have known the problems for years, and they want to fix them, right? That is why they got voted in to fix all that stuff those republicans would not. Your own words…." ignoring major infrastructure needs and maintenance in the decades prior to 2018" So the dems know what they need to fix so get it on the ballot and let us all vote.
