Reflection pool

If Donald hadn't waved the look at me flag all in everyone's face for weeks I don't suppose most people would have ever known that his no bid contract award to his personal pool vendor with the choice of a horrific pool color would eventually finish 600% over budget and massively behind schedule with an alteration to a color much closer to one that would actually reflect.
This and with don trying to distance himself as far as possible from the cluster **** as soon as it went south, denying any connection to the vendor or influence of the contract

Really, this is what our president does with his time instead of presidenting.

What should have always been a non-issue routine maintenance program carried out and managed by the national park service became a national fuss/distraction thanks to one and only one person

@redneckroy : @ParksideRes : You do realize the color never changed during the repairs? It was always going to be American flag blue.

But it did, or trump lied or was just wrong. He announced early on that the initial coating was the final color. The final color is more of a dark blue/gray. I don't know or care, but again, the only reason it stirred up so much drama was trump wasting his time on it.

(Wave the look at me flag), but well, we haven't talked about him and Jeffrey for a while.

@Andi7 : It did. We have the documents from the Interior Department raising concerns about the blue color. (Also the coating already peeling, no work done on joints that were marked as complete, etc.) They made the contractor redo it. Then was redone with a much much darker color, almost black or slate gray.

This is the rendering, which matches the failed attempt.

@ParksideRes : That's the primer that goes down before the top coat goes on. 🤦🏻‍♀️

@Andi7 : You assume that.
That's not what the interior department said months ago in their documentation. Those unpainted areas in the picture above never got the swimming pool blue, just the slate grey.

$13MM just to change the color. It was just repaired in 2012.

@ParksideRes : I don't assume that. That's what the contractor explained.

Edit to add: The Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool was coated using a multi-step process that included a base primer followed by a topcoat. Details of the coating process: The Primer: Workers applied a light-blue base coat to act as a foundation for the final finish. The Topcoat: Contractors finished the concrete using a dark, "industrial-grade" sealant in a shade known as "American flag blue". The Rationale: Using different colors for the primer and topcoat ensures complete coverage so applicators know exactly which areas have been sealed.

@eighteen : That repair failed shortly after it was completed.

@Andi7 : oh, where did you get that information? That completely contradicts the documents that the New York times got from the interior department.

Those documents raise concern that the color was too bright and splotchy and they made them darken it and redo it.

Also that it was peeling and bubbling and they were doing nothing to actually seal the joints.

Hence why the cost nearly tripled.

@ParksideRes : I edited to add the steps taken. They also filled the joints between the concrete slabs with solid foam and sealant to prevent leaks.
