It seems Republicans are, finally, finally I say, growing a spine and appear to be fighting this.

I really can't think of any reason why he is doing this - other than the obvious undermining our legal system. #msg2182621

@niceguy :
That right there is some scary snit. Any president that would seek to that is not worthy of the office they hold.

Slush Fund from WHAT? Oh, I see….." Trump filed a notice with the court Monday saying he had voluntarily dismissed his $10 billion lawsuit against the IRS, which alleges the IRS failed to properly protect his tax returns after a contractor passed details of the president's taxes on to news outlets." So Trump did a deal (go figure) to drop this lawsuit for, wait for it, wait, wait…..a slush fund to be paid out to who he says he wants it paid out to. He should just keep the lawsuit going I guess.

@Atascocita888 : He'd lose and knows it. But told his subordinates to create this and he'll drop it.

It's all rehearsed. Huff and puff and when discovery comes due, create a deal to enrich his followers.

@ParksideRes : Exactly what he did. And does often. Hopefully, after he's gone, his 'personal lawyer' will get the same treatment from the law board that Giuliani got.

@Atascocita888 : Most of the time I agree with a lot of what you post. In this situation, if I am understanding what you are saying, I must disagree.

I do not understand the claim of targeted prosecution requiring compensation. To me, targeted, "unjust" prosecution involves filing case after case against a person and having none of them result in conviction. In this situation, people committed crimes, were caught tried, convicted and sentenced. To me, that is the system working the way it was designed. Yes, it was a targeted prosecution. Targeted the people who committed the crimes, as proven in a court of law. The system works.

I suspect that Trump feels these were unjust prosecutions because they were convicted of trying to save the country by stopping the election verification. He feels no one should be punished for standing up for America. OK. But if doing what they did should not be illegal and not require prosecution, change the laws. Don't ignore them just because you are fighting for what is "right for America". America already decided what was right for America and elected Biden. Right or wrong, that is what was decided. Just as America changed sides and voted Trump back in. We have to live with what America decides is right for itself.

This payment game is just, plain wrong.

@ParksideRes : Why is the IRS dropping the suit then? Let Trump keep his lawsuit, he will loose as you say.

My understanding is the IRS must be afraid they will loose the lawsuit at 10 billion and settle for 1.8 billion. That is a better deal for the IRS. There are other things the IRS are also dropping. The fund would be set up for those who claimed they were unfairly punished by the Biden administration-including Jan. 6 rioters. So not all Jan. 6 people but all the others who may have been unfairly taken to court or had other things done to them….. victims of lawfare. I can think of several who would fit this and none were J6ers.

@Atascocita888 : No, they wouldn't. He can't prove any actual damages and they are all his buddies there and in the DOJ. They will do whatever he says currently. It was a prime excuse to get tax money to his peeps

The money isn't even from the IRS, it's from the DOJ.
