@Sammee That is cool sammee. My daughter attended the zombie youth shootout at conroe shooting academy yesterday and i mentioned this incident to the class coordinator and he talked to the class about what if scenarios like this and all the students rose their hands and knew to tell an adult and leave the area. This was a class of mostly ten year olds. The instructors have a reward plan of giving reward coins with the TSRA symbol if kids do something heroic like make a right choice. Giving kids lessons and training and rewards will do it. My daughter was sad for the kid who passed and i told her if she ever was in that situation and left and told me or another adult she would be rewarded handsomly.

Better yet may be a child that says you absolutely need to put that gun down, it's not a toy, and if you will not I'm leaving even though I'm your friend.

The fact that this house was sold to the owner only a few months ago and there has been traffic that resembles drug dealing behavior since they moved in does not seem to be an issue that is coming up at all.....

But I also appreciate how much respect has been shown to the grieving families. Another thread on another day and I think we can dive into the glareing drug problems here.For now we still have families that just had their world turned upside down... And right before a major holiday.

@bbk The story said the gun was stolen so it sounds like it was not obtained at this home.

@Tuckersmom I have a feeling it has affected the entire community. Or made everyone think about speaking to their children about guns and safety. Small children should not be left unsupervised in my opinion. But they should still be schooled in safety. It's a bit harder to keep an eagle eye on our teenagers, unfortunately. Particularly in homes where both parents work outside the home. Talk to your children today and impress upon them how these instances can change lives in an instant.
Say no to drugs including pot. Step away if you see mischief. It's not worth a life loss to be "cool"

@TheCatsMeow I totally agree that it does affect the whole community and a sad reminder of how quick precious life can be ended! I know I reiterated gun safety to my kids that evening! The family next door ( or any other homes in the path of a stray bullet) could have easily been much more effected also than a broken window! I personally believe that weapons should be stored in a way any children can't access them- such as a biometric safe ( adults can still gain quick entry in case of needing the firearm in emergency) I believe also that it's important to talk to your teens about the crowd of friends they hang around. Although we can't monitor them 24/7 - hanging out getting stoned and as a parent feeling the need to pat kids down for weapons before entering my home isn't the crowd I'd want around! Hopefully we as parents have taught them well and they have a good head on their shoulders and strong enough to stand up in any situation where it would be needed!

As the owner of the home that the bullet was found in, It is very sad for the lose of a young life, but I am not surprised by it. Neither of the shooter or the victim lived in the house. Kids and young adults go in and out of the house at all hours with very little respect for there neighbors. They are home alone when they should be in school. Luckily we where not home when it happened and the window was the only victim in my house.
