@HumbleGirl

But someone IS telling you who can live in your home! It would be the developer of your subdivision. When you bought your home in that subdivision you agreed to abide by the "developers rules". If you don't like those rules you go buy a lot out in the country and make up your own rules. You can have 100 people live with you, a goat, two cows, a couple of pigs and a pink house with a statue of your favorite football player in the front yard. You can do just about anything you want.

So why would someone who feels like you do ever sign some stupid contract in some subdivision that some developer made up some crazy rules that you do not want to follow? So, a board can tell me what color I can or cannot paint my house but they cannot stop a single family residence from being used as a rental complex?

I notice you actually know a lot of your neighbors. You know who lives where and who has what kids and what they drive and who has grown kids with spouses and, wow that is exhausting to know everyones business. But at least you know that it is family members that actually live as a family and not a group of people who only have in common the fact that they all rent a room in the same house.

Oh, my...more problems! I am so glad my neighbors are wonderful! Between 3 of us we have 7 cars or trucks and often have a rental. If you don't know us you would think we had a boarding house or a car dealership. There are at least a few apartments in the community. I wish I had one!

This reminds me of a certain Half way house that was operating in the Atascocita Community Improvement Association. If I recall correctly that operation was shut down.
Was the board involved?

One time at a meeting a pres. of the ACIA board explained to us that some grounds maintenance was done and perhaps some deed restrictions issued because a resident that was running a business out of his home complained that he did not want his customers to see unkempt conditions when they arrived at his home.

I guess it all depends on who you are.

Some get to violate deed restrictions, others clearly not.

Some of the current board members pursued a court case regarding a building line violation.

The homeowner tried to apply a different term to the violation but was rebuffed. A judge apparently upheld the deed restrictions regarding building lines and according to the homeowner he had to remove the portion that was a violation and pay the association a lot of money.

Not long after, the board approved structures for residences by applying the same terms that were rejected for the above home owner in spite of the court ruling.

I guess it all depends on who you are.

And if I recall correctly they even found the time to call a Special Meeting to get these approvals done.

It is funny to me how our HOA says things can't be done -but other HOAs seem to get it done.

Nah I'm not at all in my neighbors' business. But in the handful of conversations I've had with them, they've volunteered information about themselves. I was Providing examples of how people live, and there's nothing wrong with any of it except the judgement that comes from crabby uppity people who wish to live in a bubble. Come on out to the real world, it's quite nice.

I also heard they are trying to reverse the policy of the previous board concerning accessory buildings. Apparently, a new member of the ACC doesn't like them, even though some members of the ACC have backyard structures.
