I think Mac made it clear he was referring to modern KKK. And like the Black Panther groups....no longer the violent groups they were but still a strict ideological group with no room for diversity. I believe the NAACP fits within that category as well.
That being said....looking at the posts of the dozen or so regular posters on this board, and assuming any of us/them represent the community as a whole, is fairly narrow as well.
Welcome, I hope you and your family love it here as much as mine.
@Fairlane67:
?? 'modern KKK'? There's a difference? There's diversity now? Does that mean I can apply for membership?? LOL. Seriously though i just don't know what that means or should mean to me. I'm not sure you can compare the Black Panther Party to that of the KKK. Both the NAACP and BPP missions and goals were to support members in black communities that were under-served and under-represented. What BPP and KKK did have in common was their use of violence. but for entirely different reasons.. Excuseable = no; explaineable = definitely. You'd have to respect what both of these organizations wanted to do for a community of ppl nationwide that was treated as inferior not that long ago in American history. I'll contend a better comparison to the KKK, imo, is the Nazi Party!
As for representation, I never said as a whole; apologies if it was taken that way. I don't know the exact % and math of how many users that post regularly here are representative of the community, but I'd venture to say the opinions shared here online are shared by many in the real world on both sides of the sprectrum. I'd bet good money! For the most part, it's a compliment: Many threads I read here illustrate we've got a commununity of hard-working, productive members in the community.
Lastly - I sincerely thank you for the the welcome.. we've been here 6 years now. I would not have imagined as a youth growing up in south Queens, NY ever providing my children with the space to run around in a yard the size we now have or the services available here many back home (still) only dream of - clean parks, walkways, good PUBLIC schools, SAFTEY, etc. all of this to simply state: I love where I live.. and I've lived all over - but I haven't forgotten where I started. The help many of these programs and services (or similar) have provided me at one point in time or another has proven invaluable to my present and sustained success. We can still have our differences, we just don't need to be **** about them - do we?
P.S = NEW BPP are a bunch of nuts! and have NOTHING in common to the BPP of the past.
