Boko Haram

@ginx: Point? That we did designate this org as an FTO eventually once we saw they did have potential to hurt US interests? In the two years prior, the org was less organized, less violent, more local and the decision was right for that point in time.

@HumbleGirl:

You are exactly on point, Some on here just simply want to push their on agenda and opinion. The state Dept also received recommendations not to classify Boko Haram.

@tb505
when someone asks for my point and then proceeds to answer their own question it comes off as pretentious to me. It also seems that you are ok with pushing agendas and opinions as long as they are aligned with yours, no problems with that, it's human nature.

The thread title clearly says "Boko Haram"... not sure why some of you bring Iraq/Afghanistan into this? Why is it relevant? Oh, right... must be Bush's fault.

^^^Not to mention the cover-up of Pat Tillman's death and the outing of CIA operative Valerie Plame. I don't remember too many Republicans jumping on the outrage bandwagon in either of these events.

@traxla:

I just find it interesting all out this supposed outrage of our response to a situation we have no obligation to assist in. Of course I don't have a problem with helping to find these children, but the fact of the matter is we don't have a dog in this fight. Further, we have a right to decide which organizations are named as terrorist and which are not. Someone in the State Department chose not to name Boko Haram a terror organization.

The reason I bought up Tillman and Plame is outrage on this board and in the nation is very selective depending upon what political ideology one adheres to.

@macdaddy:

If you understand anything about huge government bureaucracies, it's highly possible this decision never made it up to her level for recommendation. The SD consist of several assistant secretaries that are responsible for various regions of the world. Accordingly if the one that covered Nigeria for example decided, based on recommendations from his/her underlings that Boko Haram should not be classified as a terrorist organization, the decision might not have made it pass her chief of staff desk let alone hers.
