This week in our "Getting to Know Your Local Businesses" series,
we sat down with Rowland Ballard - Atascocita.

Tell us a bit about your business: What does your business offer, and how long have you been around? We are an all-inclusive early childhood education center proudly serving children in PK3, PK4, and Kindergarten. Our mission since we opened in 2015 has been to nurture the whole child - academically, socially, emotionally, and physically through a joyful, supportive, and inclusive learning environment.

How did you decide to get involved in this line of work? How did the business get started? Our story began in Kingwood, where our sister school has been a trusted part of the community since 2012. I began my journey there in 2016 as an assistant teacher and quickly discovered my passion for early childhood education. From there, I grew into a lead teacher, then moved into the role of assistant director, and now proudly serve as the director of our Atascocita location, which opened in 2015. It’s been an incredibly rewarding journey, and I’m honored to lead a
school that shares my commitment to nurturing and empowering young learners.

Tell us a couple of things you are proud of about your business. What are you known for? What separates you from the competition? What makes our program truly unique is our integrated curriculum that blends academics with enrichment through gymnastics and dance. These programs are built right into the daily schedule to help children develop confidence, coordination, and creativity, all while having fun. Our amazing staff plays a key role in bringing this vision to life - each teacher brings heart, experience, and energy to the classroom, making learning engaging and meaningful for every child.

What is your favorite part of running this business? The most rewarding part of running this school is watching our students grow - not just academically, but socially, emotionally, and physically. Seeing a child’s face light up when they master a new dance step, try gymnastics skills for the first time, or confidently express themselves in the classroom is incredibly fulfilling.

Who is your ideal customer/client? Who do you serve best? Our ideal clients are families with young children aged 3-5 years old who are seeking a nurturing, safe, and educational environment. We serve best those parents who value early childhood eduacation and want their children to develop socially, emotionally, and academically in a supportive and engaging setting.

Can you tell us something about yourself as the business owner? What is your background? As director of the preschool, I have a background in early childhood education and over 15 years of experience working with young children. I hold a National Administrators Credential from the National Institute of Child Care Management, which has equipped me with the knowledge and leadership skills to effectively manage and grow a high-quality early childhood program.

Are there any special promotions, annual sales, or special events that you'd like to mention?
We offer a 20% discount on tuition for siblings enrolled at the same time. Additionally, we have a referral program – when you refer a friend or neighbor and their child successfully registers, you’ll receive a $100 tuition discount for that month. We also host seasonal family events such as our Fall Festival and Doughnuts with grown-ups, which bring families together and celebrate the children’s creativity and growth.

Is there any other information you'd like your potential customers/clients to know about your business?
Our preschool follows a play-based curriculum enhanced with the Handwriting Without Tears program to support early literacy and fine motor development. We also offer enrichment activities such as gymnastics and dance to promote physical coordination and creativity. We keep low student-to-teacher ratios and ensure daily outdoor playtime. Safety, compassion, and learning are at the heart of everything we do.

How do you see your business growing and improving over the next couple of years?
We are excited to launch our new Kindergarten program starting this fall, offering families a seamless transition from preschool to early elementary education.
