WATCH YOUR STEP- Snakes are Out and About!

Loading Image...

From Mark Herman, Harris County Constable Precinct 4:

WATCH YOUR STEP!

As temperatures warm up and summer days approach, snakes are emerging from their dens after sheltering from the cold winter months.

Many of our citizens have reported snake sightings in the area, many venomous. Venomous snakes generally have slitted or elliptical pupils, while non-venomous snakes usually have round pupils.

If a snake is near, stay calm and keep your distance. Moving too fast can cause the reptile to react and bite your lower body.

If you have been bitten by a snake, keep calm and seek medical attention as soon as possible. Wash the bite with soap and water and cover the bite with a clean, dry dressing. Do NOT try to suck out the venom.
Remember this clever rhyme: “Red on yellow, kill a fellow. Red on black, venom lack.”

The snake groups would have a field day with the usage of the rhyme. 😂

Had a snake in my garage last Friday am after the rain overnight. Poor thing thought he was coming to a comfortable environment, but could make it past the wrath of dw after she almost stepped on him heading for her car.

She left it for me to clean up....

That should be coming from the Parks Dept....Constables should be concerned about all the snakes on the streets, those that have two legs and walk/run upright.....

years ago one of my sons talked his dad into getting him a pet rat snake. he got it and we had to get him an aquarium for it and a warming stone. to feed it i had to get mice for it to eat. we were told we had to make sure the mouse was dead to avoid having the snake get hurt and a humane way for the mouse to die. a couple of months after we got it my daughter took it school for show and tell , it was also the day it needed to be fed so i went to the pet store to get a mouse. i got to the school and the office staff said they would take it to her class . when i told her that it was a mouse in the bag she said i could take it to the class . the kids watched how the snake ate . the snake was a rat snake . about 2 months later one of the boy's friend didnt close the top the right way and the snake got out. that night 3 kids slept in my bed , thanks goodness i have a king size bed. about a week later i had to get a rental car. this lady brought the car to me and asked to use my phone , as we walked to the back door that snake stuck its head out of the soffit. the lady said she use a pay phone and that i could bring the car bac as she wasnt coming back here .

yeah snakes are out, just saw one the other day by our office eating a frog. Poor frog was still alive, almost felt sorry for him. I for sure do not like snakes, kind of learned to tolerate them, but have a great deal of respect for them and do not want to mess with one. For sure don't want them in my house.
Reminds me at our old office location my husband mentions, oh, there is a snake in the office. I made sure he found it and remove it. It was hiding in his closet. He thought it was a great theft detterent!
