The idea of being contacted by the tax man is really intimidating! I can see people being gullible.

@Daiquiri : If they knew the real truth, that you can hardly get someone from the IRS on the phone to begin with, they would feel safer ...

Don't forget the top 2 "legal tax scams".....Tax Prep companies that charge people hundreds of dollars to fill out a form that they could fill out themselves, at least in most cases....And those "IRS negotiation" companies that run ads all over TV and radio that try and scare people into believing that the IRS will take everything they own just because they owe some taxes UNLESS, of course, they pay the company big bucks to do what the taxpayer can easily do themselves(set up payment plans with the IRS and such)....These companies take advantage of those "ignorant" of the tax processes, the departments involved, and their rights as taxpayers....And they make BILLIONS of dollars a year doing it "legally"...Basically "preying" off the tax system....
