Laws do not stop or control things. Laws only establish what society would like things to be. Just stand beside any stop sign and see how many people come to a complete stop - they just kind of slow down. Or cheat on their taxes. We have books full of laws against drugs. That has not stopped our drug problem. Laws define what we would like to see. Compliance with those laws are a choice by each individual. Would we feel better if they had used pipe bombs to attack the crowd in Australia? Or Brown University?

People who want to kill will find a way to kill. The answer, albeit much more difficult, is to make it so people do not want to kill. Tone down the hate rhetoric. Provide more mental health support. Create a greater sense of community - not the isolationism we are currently embracing. Make it so people want to live together in peace.

Laws against guns will not stop gun violence. They will just fill up more and more prisons. And make people who just sit at home and throw rocks feel like they have done something.

ParksideRes : Not the point

@Itsme : Of course it is. Much less likely someone picks it up if it's not there.

Then let all the fentanyl in. People shouldn't touch.

People who want to kill will find a way to kill.

@niceguy : Not really. Australia's numbers are even lower for other assaults and murders too.

So that argument is completely false.

The want of gun proliferation is such an odd fetish.

I know the main subject of this thread is related to gun laws, but I just have to say something.

Why has antisemitism increased in such a huge way? It's increased and even reached a point of acceptance by a massive number of people, many celebrities included. The celebration at the Sydney amphitheater after the October 7th attack is just shocking. So many people, from all over the world is joining in support of Gaza.

With this acceptance, I fear there will be more attacks on people of Jewish faith. I also fear this may not stop until Isreal just wipes Palestine off the map. This just can't end well.

@Catmae : You're mixing things together that don't go together.

Supporting the plight of innocent Gazans isn't antisemitism. It's completely absurd to think so. Even a large chunk of Jewish citizens in Israel disagree with what is going on.

I think you've been pulled into a hole if that's your angle.

Yes there has been antisemitism mixed in and there always has been. There are people all over that didn't like XYZ person. That's always been there. But didn't mix things together.

@Catmae : Are you saying that any support of innocent Gazans ( not Hamas, they need to go away) is antisemitic?

@ParksideRes : When that support is celebrating the murder and captivity of anyone of the Jewish faith, it is definitely antisemitic.

@Catmae : that's not what what I'm asking. Doing what you're saying right there is abhorrent.

But this is the question: Do you think supporting innocent Gazans in this conflict is antisemitic? That's the question.

Absolutely no one should cheer anyone's death.

@ParksideRes : Yes and no. Support of innocent Gazans, in light of Israeli military action is understandable. Words only, not actions. I'm talking about the innocents that have been taken out as a result of the Oct. 7th attack. But how do you think the leaders of Israel should have handled this?

It seems like the more verbal support they receive, it is perceived as an "okay" to proceed with acts of violence against anyone of Jewish faith. At this point, the violent actors should realize this cannot end well for their people in Gaza. Everyone, including innocents.

@Catmae : Got it then.

It is absolutely not ok to attack anyone just for being Jewish.

I'm only gonna lightly touch, "what could have been" in that Israel has every right to deal with Hamas but something isn't right about 70,000 people dying.

@Catmae : absolutely that should not be happening.
