way about birthright citizenship

@MrsT : I don't know how people feel. But, if I had to guess, I would say that most people support birthright citizenship. You are born here, you are an American.

But, the parents, if they are here illegally, still have to go. No "anchor babies". When they go, they have two choices - leave the baby behind or take them with you. Your American baby does not grant you a pass to stay here.

That's wholly incorrect. Over 65% (edited) believe we need to look at strengthening current laws

@ParksideRes : Again, no it is not incorrect. It is easy to say we should toughen the laws. If you want a true read on people, ask if the support abolishing the Second Amendment. Without abolishing the Second Amendment, pass all the laws you want. Nothing will change.

As for you registration and verification argument, won't work. People will just say they sold the gun. And put in a fake name for the buyer. Question them and they will say "that's what he told me. That is the address he gave me." Prove him wrong. You think chasing 15 million illegal aliens is a disaster, wait until you try chasing 300 million guns.

We already have gun registration laws. That no one follows. If we pass a new registration law, when the initial registration of guns is complete, you will have 10 million guns registered. And 290 million that nobody knows what happened to.

Laws only work if people want to follow them. If they don't want to follow them, they will find a way to get around them. Just ask Trump.

chasing 300 million guns.

@niceguy : then you know we have an issue then.

That no one follows.

@niceguy : and they need to be. It's not hard to follow.

And 290 million that nobody knows what happened to.

@niceguy : then they will eventually show up.

Oh, buybacks are immensely popular when they have been offered.

Not all of this can materialize over night. But anything in a correct direction is better.

But just saying we need more guns or loosen laws to combat readily admits there is a problem.

@ParksideRes : I do not dispute that there is a problem. I just realized that simply passing more laws will not stop it.

@niceguy :
What you describe is called infringements. Something I am trying to get @ParksideRes to acknowledge.

Every other developed country that has done so proves that wrong.

@ParksideRes : Every other developed country:
1) Do not have a Constitutional guarantee to own and use guns.
2) Do not have a 250 year head start of their people buying and owning guns. They started out with not a lot of guns. What I found last night is that we have between 300 and 500 million guns in this country and they estimate that only 1.6 percent are legally registered. So we have TONS of guns to find.
It's not hard to follow.

@ParksideRes : If people want to follow them. But, most people don't want to follow them. People are more interested in maintaining their personal liberties - even if they don't own guns.

We should learn from history. Once before we tried to outlaw something that many, many people wanted. It was called Prohibition. And it failed miserably. Very noble on the surface - eliminate the scurge of alcohol. And what happened? People made millions as "rum runners", smuggling in liquor. There were tunnels running from Canada to the U.S. Capone funded a Mafia crime organization with the profits. We had speak easy's everywhere. And with the well established smuggling routes for drugs already existing, it would be foolish to think this will not happen with guns.

@ParksideRes: made the statement that all guns have a registration number. This, of course, is false. No one puts serial numbers on the guns made by 3D modelling equipment. Much like the "bathtub gin" that was made during Prohibition, which killed thousands who were desperate for a drink, we can expect an explosion of 3D manufactured guns to appear.

Bottom line: we cannot eliminate guns in America. The only thing we can do, that will be effective, is to eliminate the desire to kill.

@niceguy : We need to start somewhere. Not add to it

Just saying there's too many to do anything about it is being lazy and complicit in the acceptance of the violence.

@niceguy : And this needs to stop. 3D printer should not be able to print anything like that. We have software in printers and copy machines that don't allow currency to be copied or printed. We can do the same thing with 3D printers.

@ParksideRes : So is just passing laws. Laws without a workable implementation plan are just fodder for the campaign trail. Helps people who do not want to actually do anything sleep.at night.
