Interesting. Thinking that is going to be hard to enforce. Wondering if there are any federal laws about this.

RajunCajun :
Actually, according to the discussion I was witnessing, a state law just took effect in September, prohibiting citys and towns from doing this, unless there is a safety violation involved. I'll see if I can find it again.
I mean, I don't live in Humble, don't think I'd ever be in that situation, but doesn't it set a precedent that we won't like down the road?
Like, why would the city be able to decree, who the homeowner has living in their house?
Seems like a slippery slope to me.

And I am copy/pasting what was said in the discussion about said article on that site that shall not be named.
"Breaking the law !!!
As of September 1, 2025, a new Texas law (Senate Bill 1567, amending the Local Government Code) prohibits cities from enforcing zoning rules that limit the number of people in a home based on age, familial status, or relationships, effectively banning local restrictions on unrelated residents. Cities may still impose safety-based occupancy limits (e.g., building/fire codes).
Key Details Regarding Household Limits in Texas:
New Restrictions on Cities (SB 1567): Effective Sept 1, 2025, Texas home-rule cities can no longer use zoning to limit the number of unrelated people living together in a single-family home.
Safety Standards Allowed: While cities cannot restrict based on family status, they can still enforce occupancy limits based on health and safety standards, such as building or fire codes."

Yeah, I get that. But, I have to look at it as a precedent being set.

Vinbert : I see that. But it is unusual to house more than 4 unrelated adults on one home and I see the issues they're battling.

I had a coworker who lived in that newer neighborhood next to Kenswick. Every room was rented out to different people, she lived in the garage.
