Yes.However, the United States Border Patrol, which now operates as an agency under the United States Customs and Border Protection (2003), has been in operation since 1924. Now, I don't know when you were born; but in my lifetime, the border has never been closed, sealed, shutdown, or whatever other descriptive word you'd like to use to imagine things that didn't occur.
