Because "teenager was pointing a gun at cars by the school."

@FNULNU1954

Ok...I did not see that in the OP. I assume that is confirmed somewhere?

It's been definitely confirmed... They just had an interview with Constable Mark Herman on Channel 13... He's going to be on again at 6:00 or 6:30. I just don't understand what the kid was thinking... You can't just assume because you're a juvenile you're going to get by doing stupid stuff!!

Drove by the entrance of Kingwood Glen a little while ago (across from Oak Forest Elm.) and there was a news reporter and camera crew filming a piece. Not sure which channel...van unmarked, but the reporter was wearing a black suit with a red blouse. I didn't recognize her.

Idk..In light of the new details, is this really that big of a story?

What started out as police being dispatched to someone waving a gun around near an elementary school in Atascocita turned out to be a teenager playing with a pellet gun.

When I read this from the OP, it doesn't sound like any kind of deal at all....

A 15-year-old is charged with deadly conduct after several 911 calls reported someone making threats with a gun near an elementary school in Atascocita.

At about 10 a.m., deputies with the Harris County Precinct 4 Constables Office were called to the intersection of Kings Park Way at FM 1960 East. Callers reported someone pointing a gun at cars and walking toward Oak Forest Elementary School. The Harris County Sheriff's Office, Texas Department of Public Safety and Humble ISD police all responded to the scene.

The elementary school was placed on lockdown as a precaution.

Deputies caught up with the 15-year-old suspect in the 19200 block of Kings Park Way.

The teen was taken into custody without incident. Deputies say he appeared to have a black handgun in the waistband of his pants, but it turned out to be a pellet gun with a very realistic design.

The 15-year-old's name is not being released. He has been booked into the Harris County Juvenile Detention Center.

@AlettertoElise

Deadly conduct?

I'm certainly not saying that this kid shouldn't face some consequences for being a complete dumb***, but isn't that a little over the top? Can you kill someone with a pellet gun?

Who knows...maybe they got a potentially disturbed kid off the streets in time...

@brightlights, I think the charge is based on the fact that the gun had been altered to look like a real hand gun....and people he pointed it at thought it was real. This could have lead to a deadly incident. What if one of the people he pointed it at feared for their lives and shot him? Or if the cops perceived him to be a threat to them or the school and they shot him?

From the interview the Sheriff gave, the kid pointed it at several people and made threats. He then walked to the school, where things could have escalated. this boy is so lucky that he is alive to face the charges. In today's world this could have gone another way.

All I can say is where was the parents and this is an example of lack of awareness and training by the parents. My daughter handles live guns and even she knows it is a stupid idea to walk with it in the streets without adult supervision.

Look, kids very lucky he didn't point that thing at the wrong person period.

Right or wrong with my kids in the car you point a gun at me I will drop you!

Without kids in my car I might drop you anyway. Bottom line, you never point a gun at anyone unless you're going to pull the trigger.

yes, it was an AHS student

In today's society one will not make an assumption it's a fake gun. It looked real.

Update:

ATASCOCITA, Texas (KTRK) -- A 15-year-old Humble ISD student is charged with deadly conduct for allegedly pointing a pellet gun at drivers near an elementary school Tuesday morning.

According to Harris County Pct. 4 Constable Mark Herman, deputies responded to multiple 911 calls around 10 a.m. Tuesday near Oak Forest Elementary School. Callers stated a teenager was pointing a gun at drivers on Kings Park Way.

"When the deputies arrived, they saw what appeared to be the suspect," Constable Herman said. "They ended up taking him down at gunpoint, and it was a kind of real touch and go situation."

Deputies responded with guns drawn and were able to de-escalate the situation within minutes and arrest the 15-year-old Atascocita High School student.

"Luckily he did not point that gun at deputies," Herman said, "because it could have been really tragic and he would not have won, I can assure you."

Oak Forest Elementary School was placed on lockdown for about 20 minutes as a result of the situation. An Humble ISD spokeswoman said, "We take precautions when it comes to the safety of our students."

That sounds like he has either given up or didn't learn a lesson. I hope someone can mentor this boy and get him on the right track. Sometimes it needs to be someone that is not within the family.
