WATCH YOUR STEP- Snakes are Out and About!
From Mark Herman, Harris County Constable Precinct 4:
WATCH YOUR STEP!
As temperatures warm up and summer days approach, snakes are emerging from their dens after sheltering from the cold winter months.
Many of our citizens have reported snake sightings in the area, many venomous. Venomous snakes generally have slitted or elliptical pupils, while non-venomous snakes usually have round pupils.
If a snake is near, stay calm and keep your distance. Moving too fast can cause the reptile to react and bite your lower body.
If you have been bitten by a snake, keep calm and seek medical attention as soon as possible. Wash the bite with soap and water and cover the bite with a clean, dry dressing. Do NOT try to suck out the venom.
Remember this clever rhyme: “Red on yellow, kill a fellow. Red on black, venom lack.”
