Father Of The Year Found In Your Backyard!

It’s debatable, but the Father-of-the-Year Award could go to the woodpecker dads that visit your feeders. During the daytime, dad woodpeckers often share equally in the nesting duties with their mates, but come nighttime, the fathers often solely incubate the eggs and brood the nestlings. They also bring food to the nestlings as often, or even more so, than the mothers. When the young brood fledges from the nest, dads spend the next few weeks leading them to great food sources, including his own favorite backyard bird feeders.

If you are interested in learning more about Woodpeckers and how to attract them to your backyard feeders, please make plans to attend an educational talk with John Mims, ornithologist and co-owner, along with Susie Mims, of Wild Birds Unlimited of Kingwood. Details can be found here: www.facebook.com/eve nts/1162166201239500

Known John and Susie for years. If you get a chance visit WBU in the Kingwood shopping center. They're always happy to answer any questions you might have.

I love that store I could stay in there all day. They know so much about birds. I was in there about two weeks ago and probably spent $100. But I have things that I can feed the birds with that the squirrel can't get to lol

@Maxsmom : I dropped close to that on Wednesday. Next time you're there ask them about Bark Butter, it's Crack for birds. I get the beads for my pan feeder and the paste for the woodpecker feeder
