In my opinion, 47s administration is pouring gasoline on the fire. What happened was tragic. It would be no less so if Singh was an American citizen. In regards to sentencing, there's frequent outrage with perceived inadequate punishment for certain crimes. That said, once Singh serves his time, he's getting deported. Given immigration is an explosive issue in our society, it would be nice if our "leaders", especially at the national level, sought to calm the storm, as opposed to encouraging a tornado.
