Investigation into Humble police chief to wrap by end of January, city manager says
Humble city leaders say an investigation into Police Chief Dan Zientek should be complete by the end of January, but declined to elaborate on what allegations have led to the law enforcement veteran being placed on unpaid leave.The city had initially placed Zientek on paid administrative leave Dec. 11, according to City Manager Jason Stuebe. But new allegations and information led to the suspension being changed to unpaid leave days later.Stuebe declined to elaborate on what allegations are facing Zientek. Reached for comment Tuesday, Zientek declined to comment other than to say the investigation remained ongoing.

Zientek had only taken over as the city's police chief in June, after the previous Chief Ken Theis retired. He had previously served as an assistant chief. But in November, an anonymous survey of around 40 of the police department's 95 employees identified growing concern about the agency's leadership and transparency."Overall, the feedback reflects an agency experiencing reduced trust, perceived favoritism, concerns about leadership consistency and preparedness, and strain within the command structure," the authors of the survey wrote in an eight-page summary report released Nov. 21.Almost 50% of respondents said department morale was very low and 57% said communication was very poor, according to the results of the survey."Some respondents expressed caution in offering candid feedback due to concerns about inconsistent discipline or potential repercussions," according to the survey.It's not clear what additional allegations might've led to Zientek's being placed on unpaid leave.Stuebe said he hoped the investigation would be done by the end of January if not slightly earlier.www.houstonchronicle .com/news/houston-te xas/article/humble-p olice-chief-zie website&utm_campaign=another website_news
