Humble ISD students bring home scholarships, qualify for International Thespian Festival at Texas Thespians State Festival

By Joshua Koch | January 6, 2023

In mid-November, more than 10,000 students across the State of Texas attended the Texas Thespians State Festival in either San Antonio or Grapevine.

The time was used to “educate, showcase and celebrate theatre for students and teachers across the State of Texas.”

In the competition portion, Humble ISD students showed out.

Summer Creek High School’s Summer Mompoint had a big showing. The senior was a National Qualifier for her short film and in duet acting with Lily Primeaux. Mompoint was also chosen as the recipient of a $1,000 Texas Thespians Scholarship.

Along with Mompoint and Primeaux, Summer Creek racked up a total of nine National Qualifiers.

Soleil Hoskins and Sophia Ramirez were National Qualifiers in duet acting. Agatha Angeles qualified in marketing; Lindsay Hoffman and Gabriel Journet in monologue acting; Michon Lott in solo musical; Kennedi Cox in stage management and Liyah Babineaux in playworks.

Kingwood High School had eight national qualifiers. Regan Etter and Sarah Reach in monologue; Kate Matthews, Loren Hicks and Chelsea Rivers in solo musical; Anna Kovacik and Chloe Patterson in duet musical; Isabella Burkhardt in costume design and Charlotte Russell in stage management.

Kingwood High Troupe was selected as the winner of the All Star Troupe Display and Jacqueline Trinh-Juarez won a $1,000 Texas Thespians Scholarship.

Finally, Kingwood Park High School had Alyssa Montelongo and Shelby Townsend qualify in duet acting and Cameron Williams in solo musical. In the Tech Challenge the team of Olivia Brenner, Celestina Gonzalez, Abigail Hunt, Townsend and Williams took home third place overall.

These 22 Humble ISD students are now qualified to compete in the International Thespian Festival at the University of Indiana on June 19-23, 2023.
