Dr. Melissa Leigh Named 2025 TASL Distinguished Library Service Award for School Administrators Recipient

Humble ISD Senior Director of Personalized Student Success Dr. Melissa Leigh was named the recipient of the 2025 Texas Association of School Librarians Distinguished Library Service Award for School Administrators.

“I am extremely humbled to be named the 2025 Distinguished Library Service Award winner for School Administrators from TASL,” Dr. Leigh said. “Our library media specialists are far more than the keepers of books - they are curators of curiosity who inspire a lifelong love of reading and learning. They create spaces not just for knowledge, but for discovery, exploration, and imagination. I'm honored to stand beside them.”

The award was presented to Dr. Leigh during the TASL Conference held in Dallas at the beginning of April. Dr. Leigh is the first person to ever receive this award from Humble ISD.

As part of Dr. Leigh’s nomination for the award, she was described as being instrumental in ensuring that Humble ISD libraries are staffed with passionate and motivated individuals by providing unwavering support, access to resources, and opportunities for professional growth.

Dr. Leigh plays a critical role in fostering an environment where those who aspire to work in our libraries can thrive and succeed.

Under her leadership, Dr. Leigh has provided guidance to all 47 Humble ISD librarians, secured funding for the district-wide Battle of the Books program and transformed the culture of libraries in Humble ISD by establishing high expectations, promoting learning and positioning libraries as an integral part of student success.
