Wonder what they did back in the 1800s. I hope he is going to pay for it.

It would suck to work in an unairconditioned prison. How do you staff that?

+1 : It would suck to work in a prison even with air conditioning! That has got to be a job that would make an employee question his life choices. I can't imagine.

justanirishgirl : Ain't that the truth? I think the pay is meh, at least around here, but they get full benefits including retirement so there's that. So, I guess that makes it worth it--if anyone could actually work there long enough to retire. I couldn't.

Sometimes choices have to be made. The prisons close to us in Texas need AC and better pay for staff. So these counties that raise our taxes have to figure out where to put all that new money. Should it go to where part of it is planned to go…. Domestic/family violence receiving additional attention. Commissioners had proposed adding $900,000 per year to the Domestic Violence Assistance Fund for FY2027 and FY2028, using up to $1.8 million in reallocated funds.
* The District Attorney's office also has a Special Victims Prosecution and Protective Order project dealing with domestic violence, sexual assault, dating violence and stalking. The FY2027 project involves an $831,272 state grant plus a $427,254 county match.
* There is also a proposal for a $4.5 million Community Safety Department that would consolidate/expand programs involving violence intervention, crisis response and domestic-violence support.
So let's take that money and put in AC and pay staffers more. Yes or no? My problem is those areas our county commissioners are pouring more money into is it helping. Look at our schools. throw money at them and the kids still learn very little. So does crime go down by throwing this new money at it? Or would it be better to put more criminals in prison, (build some more of them) air condition them and pay staffers more?
