Deputy Involved in Fatal Shooting at Kingwood Hospital

From the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office: At approximately 9pm Monday night, a San Jacinto County Sheriff's Deputy was involved in an officer-involved shooting at the Kingwood Hospital near the Montgomery County line. The suspect, who was an inmate in the custody of San Jacinto County, is deceased, and there is no ongoing threat to the public. The Houston Police Department is leading the investigation and has requested assistance from the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office. Sheriff Doolittle will also visit the scene this evening to provide any necessary support. For further inquiries, please contact the Houston Police Department.
According to the San Jacinto County Sheriff's office, “The deputy had been assigned to guard an inmate who had been transported to the hospital for medical treatment following injuries sustained in an altercation the previous night. During the hospital stay, the inmate attempted to distract the deputy, leading to a physical struggle in which the inmate attempted to seize the deputy’s firearm. Fearing for his life, the deputy was forced to use deadly force to prevent the inmate from causing harm.”

“We are aware of an incident that occurred on the campus of HCA Houston Healthcare Kingwood involving law enforcement. The safety of our patients, colleagues, and visitors remains our top priority. We are cooperating with law enforcement as they conduct their investigation. Any further inquiries regarding the incident should be directed to the appropriate authorities.”
