@Blackhorse77 : Dang. I didn't know calcium was bad for the kidneys. I have kidney disease and my nephrologist never mentioned calcium. Just the Excedrin I take.

Are you concerned with bone density? My doctor has recommended I take vitamin D instead.

@Weathergirl5 : He also told me it could contribute to heart disease. I try to not take supplements and just eat my veggies etc.

@Blackhorse77 : That makes sense. I don't have stones that I know of but have stage 3 kidney disease.

The vast majority of supplements are garbage. Just eat your stuff and get out in the sun for 20 mins/day for Vitamin D issues.

Vitamin C supplements (some!) are the exception, esp during cold and flu season. 👍

Look at Vitamin World and compare prices. I take them and do fine (when I remember)

@Weathergirl5 : I think my dad has stage 3 too. Other than the pain killers, they told him not to drink dark sodas like coke and root beer. Something about the dye in them.

A lot of the bad reputation vitamins got was years ago when they did not dissolve correctly and people would just poop them out without even breaking them down. As long as you don't use the cheapest ones from Wal-Mart I would have no concerns about them not working. I usually just drop one in a glass of loop warm water to see how well it dissolves. You can't count on just eating right because we get so many vegetables from different places it just depends on the soil if you get them with enough vitamin and mineral content.
