What I see here is the height of hypocrisy on the part of Republicans. As recent as when 45 was in office cutting taxes for the wealthy, the GOP had no problem with raising the debt ceiling. Without demanding spending cuts!
Now all of a sudden, they're worried about fiscal responsibility? Give me a break. Secondly, the debt ceiling isn't about future spending, it's about money already spent. Essentially the national credit card bill has come in and it's time to pay.
Lastly, Kevin McCarthy sold his soul to the fringe elements of his party to become Speaker. Hence, though he might realize how disastrous a default might be, he's held hostage. Particularly by one female member of his party who couldn't pass a 5th grade civics test even if it was open book. Lord help us.
