@bap Well I can rid some of your fears ! Long as I don't give my husband to you I promise you most likely won't have snakes in the house !!! We use to have 3 little Yorkies & when my hubby would get up in the morning he didn't want to do what I do which was let all 3 out & SHUT THE DOOR . Then they come back 1 at a time so you have to go 3 times to the door & let each one of our fur babies in . Nope he opened the door had coffee ,watched TV, showered , shaved & dressed for work ALL DONE WITH THE BACK DOOR WIDE OPEN . I many times got up before he left & pitched a fit because I'm so afraid of snakes & I was soooo afraid one would get in the house . This was 3 separate times & thank GOD they were those brown marsh snakes that are very tiny . Although in my case it doesn't make any difference I scream as if a PYTHON is in the house .

In mid June, when we were getting all of that rain, my dog came in from the back yard with a swollen front leg. Took her into the vet to find it was a snake bite. Luckily, dogs can handle a poisonous snake bite much better than us, but the vet had told me that there had been numerous snake bitten pups coming in for treatment. Keep an eye out for your furry friends while outside, you never know what could be back there.

I had a friend many yrs ago that her mom mowing the grass got bit by a poison snake . She said her mother couldn't even stand for anyone to come into the hospital room & talk . The talking made her leg vibrate she told them . She said she was really in a lot of pain .

Right after we bought this house, I came down one morning to find a snake slithering across my kitchen floor. I dropped a book on it.. lol it was one of those huge *** dictionaries. Haven't had one since, thankfully, but that might be because we replaced the doors, I think he slid in under the back door.

I'm still not using my back porch tonight since dark. Got too much BBQ stuff out there for it to be hiding in so will spend this weekend CAREFULLY checking every nook and cranny to ensure it hasn't taken up residence up here!

I'm watching very carefully to make sure it doesn't sneak in the front door either as I'm coming in or out!

Snake in the house = a call to a moving company. Or the guns coming out! No way am I sharing the place my family rests their head safely, with a snake! Cats or coons in the attic, ok. But NO snakes!

Also, no trees near me and balcony is completely covered from the sky, so no a riel assaults!

Sleep easily tonight!

I also REALLY didn't like reading through this thread with all of your personal anecdotes! The dog breathed on my leg hairs and I about came down stomping the "snake" that was brushing my leg!!!! Dog hasn't come back around me for at least an hour!!!

Yes, they can flatten themselves really well to get into places a normal size snake wouldn't fit into.

I keep trying to remember that snakes really do not want to be where I am.....that being said, the sand dunes at the beach are often the homes to rattlesnakes. I have shared a few feet with a small one at my beach house. I am very much aware they come out of the dunes. As far as here, I've had one in my house many years ago. It was curled up right by the fireplace.
I can't remember sleeping that night even though it was very dead! My driveway needs more light!

Years ago leaving my daughters house she walked out with me because it was dark & just as I reached the car door she SCREAMED SNAKE & I ran back towards her . I would have stepped on it had I taken one more step she said . I am very cautious at night . My husband has killed several over the years just backing out going to work . He was not trying to he just backed over them .

At our 1st house we lived in our next door neighbor brought in a HUGE !!!! hanging fern & hung it in her house . I don't know how long it was before she spotted a very LARGE snake according to her & her husband. It was slithering across the floor . All of us believe it was inside the plant because one that big doesn't just sneak into your house . So be careful with taking in potted plants .

@CelticStorm

For a little more peace of mind, you may put out some Snake-Away or some moth balls on your balcony a day or two before you start snake searching, that should send them in another direction.

A few years ago my son was playing in an above ground pool as it filled up. He started screaming and trying to get out. There was a copperhead taking a swim right along with him!!!

Scared me half to death!
