I'm trying a new dog... But the cat is been very shy.

@lola and @Tuckersmom
How long should I try this experiment? I really like the dog, but the cat must be happy too.

Are you saying the cat's behavior has changed since the dog was brought in? How? Is it hiding?

They will meet and mingle on their own terms. I'd be happy they aren't exhibiting aggressive behavior. Have they had a chance to sniff each other?
Have you tried holding the cat so that the dog can approach?
I'd give them at least 2 weeks. Longer, unless you really believe the cat is unhappy.
The cat might not like any dog you bring in. It's okay. They're not fighting. What about getting your cat another cat?
That's my opinion. I'm not a cat person though. Emoticon

It might take awhile for the cat to just tolerate the dogs existence! Some cats don't become overly friendly w dogs.. But they will be ok as long as the dog doesn't go after and attack. Dogs will find out cats have sharp edges and learn quick! Just let them mingle supervised for awhile and become not so "new" and they will adjust and tolerate better!! Cats think they are superior anyways to dogs remember!

@sandman

We tried a puppy with my older cat a couple years back. Gave it a couple weeks. There wasn't any aggression from either just you could tell the cat was not happy. Left us presents on the carpet frequently to express her feelings. Like you the cat came first for me. And on a side note this puppy enjoyed the crunchy treats from the litter box. Ugh, did not know that was a thing.

Guess I should add that it turns out that it wasn't just the dog. We adopted a new kitten and she wasn't thrilled with her either. But she tolerated her presence which was good enough for us.

Anyone know of a groomer that I can call to give me a discount to groom these babies?
I also need help fostering. I haven't listed them on our site because I'm waiting for them to get their 2nd puppy shot at the end of the month. They will be adopted quickly. I'd like to keep them together. I'm growing too attached!
